We enjoy this restaurant very much. Multiple visits and never disappointed. Food is fresh and authentic, if a little pricy. Our waiter was excellent (sorry... no name) with our first visit. Much more attentive, friendly , yet professional than others we have had.

I had heard several people talk about Giovanni's, but had never actually met anyone who had eaten there. But last Sat night, poor planning and long waits elsewhere place us on Gio's doorstep.

There was a wait here too, and upon hearing the maitre d's decidedly Spanish accent, we wondered what we'd gotten into. But there is no denying the pursuasive power of a line at the door of a restaurant...even one located in a cheesy strip mall.

With only 14 tables and just over 50 seats, this little jewel box appears to be a true family operation. The menu features very nice nightly/weekly specials as well as traditional dishes most would recognize. But its the wine list that is the driving force here. As we waited, we saw virtually every table order at least one bottle. The reason is obvious.

The combination of very good food, a maitre d' who is intimately acquiated with his wine list, and prices that are near 1/2 what most restaurants charge per bottle, quickly moved Giovanni's very near the top of my Greenville 'favorites list'.

Is the food the best you will ever eat? Probably not. Is the service worthy of royalty? Not quite. But the food is quite good and very affordable. And the wine list's price-per-bottle makes accepting a recommendation on a recent arrival that Giovanni is clearly excited about, a real treat. Furthermore, when your bill comes and you find that even with drinks your tab is less than what you would have paid at a common chain outlet.....Giovann's may leap the near the top of your 'favorites list' too.

In a world where watered down chain operations seem to rule the land, a place like Giovanni's restores one's faith in the small family restaurant.

Here's a tip: arrive between 8-8:30pm and you won't wait long, if at all, for a great little experience.

We heard a lot of great reviews of this place and wanted to check it out. Since we had to work a little late one Friday, we decided to head straight over to the restaurant from work. We arrived at 6:00 and got one of the last available tables. By the time we got our drinks, the line of waiting customers was out the door.

The food was fantastic. The wait staff made sure our drinks were always full, but the kitchen was a little slow.

Overall, it was great and we'll be back...early to get a table without having to wait.

Yep. Just so so. I waited in line for about 20 minutes (they do not accept reservations) and was assured by others in line that it was well worth the wait. I looked forward to truly authentic Italian cooking, something I know a little about.

The service is slow but the small place was packed. The kitchen is tiny so food cannot come out fast enough. My $8 appetizer of grilled asparagus was good but very small. I ordered the sausage ravioli and asked that the sauce be made extra spicy hot. It was, much to my enjoyment. But the ravioli was rubbery and I never tasted sausage. It took 40 minutes for the pasta to appear.

All in all, the place is fine, just not great. I may go back some day.

Quaint atmosphere and very authentic Italian staff. Appetizer and salad were wonderful. Main course tasted okay but not what was expected. Sauces were very runny. Meal tasted good but not good enough for a return visit. We were looking forward to the Tiramisu based on the rave reviews we had read online. But this is where the biggest disappointment happened.
