We enjoyed an early dinner on a recent Friday at the Lazy Goat, which overlooks the river and the Peace Center in downtown Greenville. The views are among the loveliest in the city, and there isn't a bad table in the house! We were entertained by the ducks in the river who were also having dinner until the geese flew in and chased them away.
Then there's the food and wine - a menu with a definite Mediterranean flair! We started with several tapas - Serrano ham, cheeses, moussaka, brussel sprouts, lamb shank, and added in a Cuban pizza and a salmon entree. Luckily, our hotel had an in-room mini fridge, because the portions were large and we took several to-go boxes when we left. We also loved the very reasonable wine list, which is heavily slanted to Spanish wines. It's possible to order by the glass, by ¼ or 1/2 carafes, or a whole bottle, so we had the opportunity to try several different ones with all of our small plates. Caroline, our server was excellent, and she even brought us a few wine samples so we could choose the ones we liked the best!
One more thing - the brussel sprouts are amazing just like everybody says. They're roasted and then flash fried with a sherry reduction, and I highly recommend them.
Greenville is fast becoming a haven for foodies, and a trip to the Lazy Goat won’t disappoint! Reservations recommended!
