The view was amazing right on the Cooper River. The food was fine as it was fresh and enjoyable. We tried a seafood cobb salad and a creole stirfry with fried okra on the side and it was all just great. Comfortable atmosphere and a huge place that probably hums on the weekend but quiet and restful on a midweek lunch visit. Would go again.

I went with family members on what turned out to be a very quiet Monday night at this restaurant. Gilligan's is a small local chain with (at present) seven locations; this review is for Goose Creek.

There are lots of options on the menu, and while there isn't a lot for the person who doesn't eat seafood, there are a few things available.

This place is a casual setup, with wooden benches in the booths that ring the dining area, and holes cut into the tabletops that accommodate buckets where you're expected to throw your trash (e.g. shrimp shells and so on). This is a great idea and I can't believe I've never seen anything like it in a Baltimore restaurant, where crabs abound. So the physical comfort level isn't incredibly high, but the staff are friendly and helpful.

I definitely recommend the "she-crab" soup, which is a cream of crab soup comparable to the best that Maryland can offer. You can get it with some brandy floated on the top of it, but you have to ask for it (and it doesn't appear on the menu). I'm going to recommend getting it by the cup, since there's not a lot of difference between "cup" and "bowl" in most restaurants anyway. Plus, you need to save yourself for the main course.

I had the fried shrimp, and it was amazing. It's hand-breaded and the breading is very light, but very tasty. It's definitely not the dark brown breadcrumby-looking stuff you usually see on butterfly shrimp; these shrimp aren't butterflied and you can still see the shrimp through the breading. I was glad I took the "all you can eat" option they were offering that night.

A relative who joined me had the Santa Fe Shrimp Pasta, which features shrimp, black beans, corn, and diced tomatoes
tossed in a mild Cajun alfredo over a bed of linguine. It was a huge portion and unless you come in starving, expect to take some home with you.

Prices were quite reasonable; expect to pay about $25/person plus tip. This will probably be on the list for my next visit to the Charleston area.
