“It's a Sports Bar just off the Interstate.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2011

A road trip into SC today was sidelined with a burger and chips at Towne Tavern. Big burgers, lots of TVs with every sport you could want somewhere along the walls and a great little place for a break. Two things really stood out 1) the sound was for the games, no music overlaid the announcers: 2) Kids were just as welcome as adults, with video games stuck in the corner of the sports bar to keep them entertained.
Did I say big burgers? Really big burgers, home made chips and cupcakes for dessert. They have a baker providing miniature cupcakes to the bar. Freshly made, with icing to top off your burger and chips.
Talk about a hole in the wall that was completely unexpected, this is it. A gas station is right there for anything you need to continue a road trip and it's an easy on and off from I-77.

“Are you ready for some football?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2011

Football is king at Towne Tavern, and the brother princes of hockey, basketball and baseball vie for the crown throughout the year. Their court is comprised of raucous crews of kids eating for free on Tuesday nights and rogue interlopers consuming regular drink specials. Their lovely pedestal-seated princess is the most glorious ranch dressing in all of the land, who is often attacked by guerilla French fries who want her all to themselves.

Decorated in traditional sports bar regalia, but focusing on the far away upstate New York and neighboring New England teams, Towne Tavern has a visible love for the refugees of cruelly cold winters. They come to Towne Tavern to eat, drink and reminisce about their homeland, and cheer for the Carolina teams on the side.

Towne Tavern’s menu is highlighted by their burgers and sandwiches, and their surprising level of quality salads, which are high in dark green lettuce content rather than iceberg, as many restaurants of that plane push.

Service is inconsistent at TT at times; however, not such that it stops us from eating there. Takeout orders sometimes take longer than they should to appear; so much so that it has occurred to me to wonder if it is done purposely so that those waiting at the bar for meals to go will order another beer.

Overall, it is a solid place to eat, and is a staple restaurant in Fort Mill for upstate New York transplants and natives alike.

“Best value in Ft Mill”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2011

We eat at t.he tavern at least once a month. The food is great and the prices are great considering you can always feed a family of 4 for under $40. As with most places some food is better than others. I would nit recommend going to a tavern fir Mexican food. This is a great place for amazing chicken tenders and wings as well as boardwalk style fries. All if the blue cheese dressing is homemade and you can tell! The portions are very large and this place has the best salad entrees in town with huge helpings which will always leave you full.

Bottom line...this a great family restaurant and sports bar with a home town feel.

“Excellent food and service; never had a bad meal here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2009

I have been going here pretty much since they opened. I am really surprised at the previous review. We have always gotten good food and service here. The owner and his wife are usually in the place, so that probably helps. I agree with the original reviewer though, they have the best fish and chips anywhere in the south. Their food is almost all fresh and they have the best chicken wings outside of Buffalo (it is a Buffalo Bills place). We eat here w/our in laws often and they have food allergies and sensitivities and they are always accommodating. They make great salads and fried green beans too.

“Nice looking place, but don't go there for the food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2009

We've tried this place three times and both of us have been dissapointed in our meal every time. During the most recent excursion , I ordered a Tavern burger, while my wife ordered a chicken fajita. My tomato was a small slice,my burger was dry yet slightly undercooked (how did they manage that?) and only had two tiny rings of onion.

They were out of onion rings, so I got cold, stale chips on the side.

My wife's fajita was OK, but they did a poor job processing the ingredients. Like a giant piece of tomato for example. Our waitress did not check on us to refill drinks prior to our order arriving, and did not check on us after our order arrived until we were nearly done.

Other times, we have ordered the French Dip, and the sliders, both have sucked. They do not have a diet salad dressing - bring your own if you want it.

It wasn't terrible, and the place does have a nice atmosphere. And they do heavy discounting, you can pick up coupons and GCs that let you basically eat for half price. But there's a better place just down Gold Hill Road called McHale's. Go there instead.
