Lost Dog Cafe was recommended to us by a couple of Folly Beach locals when we asked about dog-friendly places to eat, and we can see why it's a local favorite. My husband and I had breakfast there twice during our stay in Folly Beach, and we LOVED it.
I had a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich on a whole grain bagel both mornings. The bagel was excellent - fresh and locally made - and my sandwich was very satisfying. It was clearly made to order with fresh eggs and bacon. My husband ordered the "whistlin' dixie shrimp and grits" both mornings, and he also enjoyed his breakfast immensely. We sat in the outdoor seating area, so we were able to have our dog with us, which was very nice. Our only disappointment was that Lost Dog is only open for breakfast and lunch so we couldn't come back for dinner.
The atmosphere is casual, appropriate for a beach town. The walls inside the restaurant are decorated with framed photographs of dogs, and a dog statue sits near the door. Among the outdoor decorations is a dog-shaped topiary.
If you have an aversion to birds, you may not want to sit outside. The resident grackles are pretty bold in their attempts to snatch left-overs. We found it amusing, but some might not.
