“Crab balls were good.”
Reviewed July 13, 2009

Visited the crab shack on Saturday July, 11. Long waiting line to sit outside, but they had a small bar area that was empty so we could sit down right away.
The place was packed but the energy was relaxed.
Ordered the calamari and also crab balls to begin our party of 4. Both were excelent.
Entrees were ordered two shrimp baskets and clam strips. All entrees were over cooked, hard frozen, terribly overpriced, tasteless bites that could be purchased at Captin D's.
The service was terrible as well with a pushy waiter or bartender who was overly flirtatious with the females in our party, and condescending to the males.
Do yourself a favor and go across the street to the Center Kitchen. Sit upstairs in the open air dining area, and enjoy better food options (not all fried), atmosphere and half the price.

“Better than Hyman's in Charleston”
Reviewed June 29, 2009

I had fried shrimp at the shack and it was a lot better than the fried shrimp that I had at Hymans in Charleston which is nationally known for their seafood.

“central S. C. couple enjoyed crab balls 6/15/09”
Reviewed June 16, 2009

Loved the atmosphere and only tried the crab balls. Delicious appetizer! Delighted to find out that there are a number of franchises in the Charleston area and even one in our home county of Lexington! A couple at our church who own a Folly Beach area condo had mentioned it a number of times. This was our first time, and we will be back!

“The Best on the Island”
Reviewed April 10, 2009

My family and I arrived on folly and noticed The Folly Beach Crab Shack right on the main street. This place looked like Folly! It's not fancy, but you can tell when you walk in that this was the place that the local's ate. They were alot of them, as we ordered drinks in the Raw Bar and got a chance to meet the Folly local's. They all said how great the food and staff were here. We meet Brian the bartender and he made one of the best margaritas I ever had, my wife had some frozen Island drink from the speciality menu and she feel in love with the "craby monkey". We were called to our table on the outside deck complete with the holes in the table with a bucket to catch all the seafood shells. Maren was our waitress and she really knew the menu. I wanted fried seafood, she wanted one of the steamed buckets. We also ordered the she crab soup..WOW! The entrees arrived and we couldn't have been happier! Don't miss the key lime pie...it's home made and one of the best I have ever had. We ended up feeling like locals at the end of our vacation. We meet Ron the owner and most of the staff. What a great place to eat & meet the locals of this beautiful Island

This is a funky place in a good way and offers a good selection of fresh, well prepared seafood.
