When we checked in to our hotel room the first thing I noticed was the carpet was really stained in a few spots. There was also a hole in the plaster in the bathroom. I called the front desk as my husband rubbed the carpet stain and a dark color showed on the tissue. She said the carpet had been cleaned that day and they were planning on replacing it in the coming weeks. I asked for another room but they didn't have any available. They did send housekeeping to clean it and afterwards it looked a little better. The front desk did call us back to see if the carpet was better and apologized. I was impressed that they checked back in with us as a lot of places wouldn't have.

Overall we had a great stay with good customer service. If they would update a few things it would go a long way (like the carpet and fixing the bathroom wall). Also the furniture in the lobby needs to be replaced or be cleaned well. A lot of this could be b/c we stayed the weekend after Labor Day so they probably haven't had time to make improvements from the wear and tear of the summer season. We ate at the Blu restaurant for their buffet breakfast and it was delicious and great value for $11. Overall for what we paid for the room we were pleased and would stay here again.

The ability to provide constructive, objective feedback is a gift and we greatly appreciate your honest review of Tides Folly Beach and Blu Restaurant. I am very pleased that your overall experience was positive and that you would stay with us again.

Now that the summer season has come to a close, we are working on improvements to our common areas and rooms. This is something we do each year so we can keep your favorite beachfront property up-to-date. This year, our big projects consist of replacing the carpeting in all our rooms and updating all the bathroom fixtures. The improvements we are making should be completed by January and will make our guests experiences in the rooms better than ever.

Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions about our renovations projects or to provide any more feedback from you stay. We look forward to seeing you the next time you’re around Folly Beach!

Have to say this hotel is an under-rated value. Granted, it is a renovated Holiday Inn from the stone-ages for a shell but it has been fixed up for a second go-around at value prices. They did just enough to make it brand spankin fresh in the lobby, restaurant & bar added a Starbucks. The pool is well maintained as are the restrooms on the main level. The rooms are clean, updated and freshly painted. The drapes are old or at least needing some fixing up, as are the doors in the room. The view is just nothing that ever gets old, however.
As the main 'shell' of the hotel was salvaged they could still make money selling the rooms at $149 on the week after Labor Day. This is a very fair price for the location, view and overall feel of this hotel. The staff could not be friendlier and helpful in every way.

The restaurant's reviews on this site are a bit higher than I'd give them, overall. It 'wants to be' better than it is in that, it seems to be having growing pains living up to the new owner's and chef's lofty menu. The prices however, are not so high that you can complain for 'hotel food'. Who ever gets a great meal at a value hotel, right? What this hotel gives up in foodservice and finishing touches in the rooms-it makes up for in genuinely friendly staff and price.

Room Tip: Ask for a room as high up as possible, I stayed on the 8th floor. View of the pier, coast is great...

Reviews such as yours are the reason Tides and Blu are both Certificate of Excellence recipients from Tripadvisor. Thank you for your compliments of our staff and the renovations that have been completed over time. We take great pride in our facility but, and you nailed it, our number one asset is our people. Great view of the beach and pier from this location. The bed was comfortable to me. The air conditioner was a bit noisy and just got the job done . The staff was very friendly. You can order lunch from the pool area. I found the beach umbrellas and lounge chairs to be adequate but not as nice as some other areas.
The room was clean. The pool area seemed a bit undersized but the chairs were comfortable.
Having Blu attached to the hotel is a big plus.
I would give this a 4 star rating for a beach hotel, maybe a 3 otherwise. The friday night Luau was fun.

We enjoyed having you as a guest of our hotel, restaurant and first annual luau this September! Thank you for telling everyone about your experience in this forum and for your compliments of our facilities and, most importantly, our staff. Perhaps we will have the privilege to serve you again next year for our second annual luau if not an opportunity even earlier!

We stayed at The Tides near the PGA tournament so knowingly payed more than usual. However, I feel this hotel is over priced and was anything but clean and polished. The pictures were decieving. The breeze ways were not thoroughly cleaned. The pool is very small and was also not very clean. The comforter in our room had numerous visible stains. Luckily, we had an extra blanket in our car! The coffee maker hot plate was rusted and didn't work. Keep in mind, this is a pet friendly hotel. Our first assigned room had a yapping neighbor but the staff was happy to find us a new room. I will say, the staff was very pleasant and willing to address our concerns and the location to the beach and Charleston was convenient.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the Tides Hotel over PGA weekend. We apologize that we were unable to live up to your expectations with our facilities but I do thank you for your compliments on how our staff handled each of your concerns during your stay. Hopefully we have the opportunity to serve you again at another time when an event such as PGA is not in town and you will be able to see more of a value for your expectations.

We loved the quirkiness of Folly Beach and enjoyed The Tides hotel. If you prefer elegant 5 star hotels, this may not be your place. It is a "beach" hotel right on the ocean. Great views. Service at the front desk was excellent. The hotel restaurant, BLU, had an exceptional breakfast buffet... very nice. There are chair/umbrella rentals on their beach. The Tides hotel matches the laid-back location. We will stay there again.

the location is prime, the only place with ocean front and a pool and restaurant and bar. It really is the only game in town (unless you rent a home/condo which we'll do next time!). First, what's good: the hotel has a ton of helpful staff, is recently renovated and the restaurant, starbucks shop, pool and bar are all good. Lovely decor. PC with internet access in lobby is a nice bonus. Loved the spa hand scrub in the public bathrooms.

What's not so good. The rooms are only so-so and really tiny. The TV barely worked and signal was poor. Not worth the price. Housekeeping was the bareminimum during our stay (we had to request a shower curtain upon arrival - whoops!). The room fridge can't hold much (maybe 2 bottles of water and some yogurt?). Found a bug in our room and not super clean. Then there's the crowding. Since it's the only game it's PACKED in the pool, deck, bar area so not really relaxing - The restaurant, bar is swarmed by people not staying at the hotel so ...noisey and yucky. The place is as I'd hoped...at 6 am ...and then it spirals into chaos and crowds.

We were there in early May 2012.

Room Tip: get the ocean front AWAY FROM THE BAR/RESTAURANT AREA if you want to be able to sleep. The farthest...

Thank you for choosing to stay at Tides on your recent vacation! We really appreciated the opportunity to have you all as our guests and sincerely hope we will have that chance again on your next vacation. Thank you for your compliments of our staff, restaurant, and other amenities!

For the issues you experienced with housekeeping during your stay, please accept our apologies. Forgetting a shower curtain in a guest room certainly deserves a “whoops” but I assure everyone reading this review that this was an anomaly and is not the standard to which we hold ourselves at this property.

As for the crowds at our bar and restaurant, all I can say is that we have a very popular, one-of-a-kind location and are open to the public. During the summer months, our oceanfront deck is THE place to be. If many people hanging around an oceanfront bar, listening to music, dancing and eating lunch and/or dinner is something you are interested in, please come see us. If that is not your scene, please come see us in the fall when we still have music and entertainment but a much more relaxed clientele enjoying it.

We had the best stay there. We've been to Charleston plenty of times but we decided to be closer to the beach. Worried that none of the hotel would accept pets, Tides accepted them and helped out with little bowls, treats etc for our dog. I was also worried that since they accepted pets, that the hotel would be dirty. Nope, the rooms were very clean. The view was beautiful and the activities there by the pool/bar was awesome. Thanks Tides Folly Beach for a great experience!
