Something good and different for those of us from the north. One picks a meal -- fried chicken, fish, fried chicken livers and about 8 or 9 others -- then sides: mashed potatoes, black eyed peas, stewed apples, cole slaw, french fries. From the 15 choices you can pick 1, 2, or 3 (the cost depends on the number). That and and sweet tea and it is clear you are in South Carolina. The food is not spectacular but it is good, filling, and after a long day of driving - close to the motel.

I went with three friends for lunch and we were all very happy with our choices of food. This restaurant has so many different things to choose from that anyone could find something they like. I love southern cooking and this restaurant has the best.

Really enjoyed the home style cooking and the casual family atmosphere. Excellent homemade desserts - try the berry cobbler, enough for two.

If it doesn't come out of a can or a box, it isn't served here. These cooks are not trained to start from scratch. The veggies are from canned origin, the meats are pre-cooked, the gravy is canned! Taste suffers in the final presentation. The mashed potatoes are from some box of dubious quality, unseasoned at that. The "skillet" apples are in short supply because the vendor of this canned concoction is too costly to make them consistently available. UGH! I ate turkey slices from a pre-formed loaf, overly salty, under baked "dressing" and had heartburn from the canned, yellowish gravy before I left the table. Not my idea of tasty, satisfying fare, not by far!

If these people have made a reputation in Columbia and now rest on the laurels of dishes that have become compromised by the cost of serving fresh food, I'm OUT! Even if the hot meat and 3 sides plus drink is $10, it's not worth half that if it tastes canned, frozen and bland. You be the judge and proceed at your own discretion.

The last experience we had was at Lizards Thicket in Columbia sc and it was awful ( by the airport)....quite a few years ago. The Florence location was good. Our server (Faye) was very attentive and friendly. The food for the most part was good, I had fried chicken and it was moist and hot, the Mac & cheese was quite good but I didn't think the collard greens were good at all...
