“Down-Home Cookin'”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

An Edisto "mainstay", this is delicious Southern and Gullah-style cooking, fresh and astonishing. Yes, even from the steam table for lunch! Never had anything but a great meal here, and don't miss the frozen and fresh take-outs like Tomato Pie, fresh home made cakes and pies. Like so much of the South, don't let the exterior keep you away, and don't be fooled by the humble functional interior, either. By the time you finish a meal, you'll be "family" too!

“Very good, unique country cooking”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

Walked in not knowing what to expect. There was a serving area with about 6 different veggie choices on it. I selected the gumbo, corn pie, potato pie, and tomato pie. All the selections were above average; my personal favorite was the corn pie. Cornbread came with the meal and it was good as well. When I went to pay I noticed the meat choices on the other end of the counter. Probably would have went with the four veggies anyway but the meat choices looked good.

Atmosphere: Laid back country. I ate around 1pm and it was crowded (dining area is very, very small). In fact the entire place was small.

A major plus for me; many choices not seafood related.

“Gullah or not to gullah?”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

We were hungry and it looked inviting out in the middle of nowhere (we were only slightly lost). The food was very good, the tomato pie in particular was excellent, the key lime pie was good also.
Be warned, this is a tourist trap. You will be introduced to many tasty looking dishes. Ask for the price up front or you will have an alarmingly large bill for the amount served.

“Mmmmmmm good”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

Don't be turned off by the look. The food here is amazing. Everything is home cooked and very tasty. The flounder was fresh, the collards are cooked just right and the caramel cake is terrific. We are going back for breakfast!
