Had been to the OPO many, many years ago. We went back recently and had a grand meal. The place is under different ownership, and has been update significantly. Didn't really expect too much, but boy were we surprised. The black bean and sausage app was outstanding. Apparently the sausage was locally made and was as good as any I've had i quite some time. I had swordfish with bacon wrapped shrimp and I loved it. You just cannot ever go wrong wrapping something in crispy bacon. The swordfish was grilled to perfection, moist and tangy.
The server was attentive and engaging and made for a really pleasant experience.

We dined at the Old Post Office last year and were not impressed. This year we decided to give it another chance. Glad we did. Food was excellent and service was good. Would certainly recommend this for a nice dinner on the island. A little pricey but worth it. Try the fried oyster appetizer, you won't be disappointed.

This lovely restaurant knows how to serve it up! My friend and I shared 2 appetizers: the fried oysters and the shrimp pate. The oysters were juicy and succulent and fried to perfection! The shrimp pate, served with crackers, was creamy and perfectly smooth. We both had the crusted veal cutlet which was served with jalapeno mashed potatoes and baby lima beans. This was delicious. We enjoyed a bottle of Argentine Malbec with our meal. My friend had some gooey chocolate confection with fresh whipped cream for dessert -- she ate every last bite! If you find yourself lucky enough to visit this beautiful island, be sure to spread your luck and dine at this small, quaint, restaurant with the delicious food

My wife and I had been planning a return visit to the OPO while we were recently in Edisto Beach, SC. Should you be in Edisto, this is without exception, the best restaurant for a nice dinner out! Just out of town on Hwy 174 overlooking a lovely marsh with sun setting, your dinner scene is set for a wonderful experience. You will find many unique 'postal' themed items throughout the establishment as well as entering the grounds. This evening my wife and I found that steak was to our liking even though we were in seafood paradise! I chose one of the nightly specials, the petite fillet served with a potato medley and the vegetable of the day. My wife selected the black angus steak from the regular menu served with cheese grits. Both steaks were grilled medium to perfection. My fillet was tender and juicy topped with mushrooms. The potato medley was more that just a pile of roasted new potatoes, but an assortment of golden, blue, red and sweet potatoes! They tasted earthy, savory and sweet. Our vegetable of the day was black eyed peas, slow cooked to perfect tenderness. My wife would not nromally choose black eyed peas, but found them to be very tasty and not so earthy as one might expect from the storebought cans. Her joy to compliment the Rib eye was a wonderful serving of cheese grits. The grits were hot and creamy, flavourful and delicious. If you have not eaten grits before, try these...you will be delighted. On our way out, I asked who produced the grits? We were told a local producer, Gichee Boy was their provider. (Later, we stopped at Gichee Boy and got the inside scoop on making better grits!) We did not indulge in dessert this evening, but noticed several tables that did and the selections looked very good! Without reservation (though reservations are recommended in the high season) I recommend the Old Post Office for dinner in Edisto! Check out the web-site for more pictures, menu and contact information.

We recently had dinner at The Old Post Post Office Restaurant on Edisto Island, SC (August, 2012) and were greeted by Adam (co-owner with his wife) at the door and were made to feel very welcomed. The Pinot Grigio that both my wife and I had was very agreeable. My wife and I chose first to split an appetizer of fried oysters, which had an unusually delicate taste, and then chose to split an entree of pan seared scallops and they were even more delightful. They were accompanied by a very fresh garden salad, cheese grits and crowder peas. The bread which came early on was warm and delicious. For dessert, we had Charleston chewy cake which was topped with ice cream and was not only terrific, but was almost more than the two of us could finish off, although we were sharing it.

What impressed me most about The Old Post Office Restaurant, was that it has maintained its integrity, high quality of food and its ambiance through a series of events, such as ownership and management changes, personnel changes, e.g., chefs, temporary closure, etc. Most importantly, the prices for this type of eating establishment have remained relatively stable, i.e., very reasonable, throughout the restaurant's history while quality has not diminished. The dedication to these high standards and traditions by the current owners is to be applauded over and over again.
