We stayed at the in-land campsite and were very happy with that decision. Beautiful park with a lot of separation between many of the sites. Other sites were right next to each other which would be good for family gatherings. Sites were very nice size. some sites had the water and electric hook-ups close together while others were 25+ feet apart. Showers were nicely heated, very clean and with plenty of hot water and pressure. Lots of easy trails with good scenery. Driving into Charleston was not big deal. Many beach sites had little shade or barriers between adjacent sites. Definitely close to the beach if that's what you are after. We'd definitely come back to the inland campsite.

We spent 10 days at Edisto. I will give the Beach a 5 but the Rangers at the Edisto State Park were very unfriendly which is why I rated this attraction as a 4. If you enjoy a more natural setting than Hilton Head than Edisto is a good choice. The commercial guys have not ruined Edisto yet! There is one grocery store, a gas station, and three or four restaurants with a few small shops (that were overpriced). However, the town of Edisto hosted a Flea and Artists Market October 12 with many local artists who were surprisingly talented with some beautiful works. The Edisto Beach area had an excellent bike and walking trail throughout the town which was very scenic and safe. The state park also has bike and waling trails that feature more of the naturalist side. Lots of shells on the beach with shrimp boats cruising along the shore. Marshlands on the other side have their unique beauty too with many birds.

We camped at the park, and it was the usual state park. Evidently, there is nothing to do in the area but go to the beach, which we did on several occasions and really enjoyed it. There was repaving going on over on a road that was very close to our campsite. That's why I said we should have left early. But the park would not let us move to another campsite further away from the repaving or refund our money, so we stayed. The last day was mostly inside the camper because of the noise and smell of the repaving.

We stayed at a time-share on Edisto for a week and found the island's beaches to be disappointing. Too gritty and shelly; with some serious erosion going on in places. Everyone kept telling us to see the best beaches we had to go to the State Park, on the island's east end. So we did. The beach there was marginally better than the public beach near out timeshare, but only marginally. And there's really nothing else to do in the beachfront-part of the park other than camp and hang out on the beach. We didn't check out the nature trail that winds thru the swamps and wetlands.

Well, we have had, once again, a fabulous time at Edisto, came back home so relaxed and happy. Brought our S.C. oysters with us this time and used the amenities for a nice October oyster roast. Weather great, camp site clean and wellmaintained, staff very helpful with both times we asked questions. The shop on the water that sells beach stuff ? Great find, great customer service and selection.
We will see you before next summer !
