My family recently moved to the Dillon, SC area. We love going to Helmi's Japanese Restaurant. We go at least twice a week. A family of four can eat before 4 p.m. for just over $20. Now of days, it is hard to find a place that is less than $30 for a family of four to eat with drinks included. My son and daughter love it too! It is such a wonderful alternative to the fast food restaurants. The service is just as wonderful as the food! Thank you Helmi's!!!

On our way to Savannah, we needed to stop to fill up the gas tank and decided we would try to get lunch at the same time. Our daughter had seen a sign on the highway for sushi, and we thought it would be a healthy alternative to the fast food places. How wrong we were!

Our first clue should have been when we saw the girl at the counter trying to explain to the "sushi chef" just what the rolls were. And while we were waiting right near the sushi bar, why didn't we hear any chopping? Because the "sushi chef" had zero knife skills!!

Most of the people there seemed to be chowing down on tremendous plates of fried food. That should have been another clue.

I ordered a spicy scallop roll. What arrived was unlike any other spicy scallop roll I had ever seen. The scallop had been cooked, and some sort of sauce--not very spicy at all--had been glopped on the top of the roll. My husband's Philly roll was a health hazard: the salmon was dark and oxidized in many spots, and the piece itself looked like some kind of meager scrap. Needless to say, he did not eat it!

Other rolls had little if any fish in them, and the fish had been cut--err, hacked, into pieces. And the rice! Waaaaay too much rice! The rolls were $5.00 each, which was very expensive given the fish they did not have.

We ate some of the content of some of the rolls and took off the wads of rice. Lunch for three was very expensive, and we wound up having some fruit and cheese in the car, because we all were still hungry. We definitely overpaid, but we did not overeat. Oh, their unsweetened ice tea was excellent!

Should we find ourselves in Dillon, SC another time, we most definitely will NOT stop off at Helmi's!!

We were travelling off I-95 south and hit this place by accident. We are health conscience and this is the spot- what an array of food!! The shrimp bowls were loaded with shrimp and the mahi mahi plate was lots of fish & veggies!! Salad was great- spring rolls- OK- we hit this place on the way home too- Japanese food is inheritly expensive but not here!! Good portions, friendly service and the sushi was good!!! Prices were fantastic...highly recommend- wish there was a place like this where I lived!! Got a big lunch with a drink for only $7.95 for shrimp- $5.95 for chicken. Ice tea was freshly brewed not that other junk!!!
