The Cypress Inn at Conway Myrtle Beach
Ranked #1 of 2 Conway B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 26, 2012

We made the mistake of staying here on our honeymoon weekend. In retrospect, we would have been better off staying at the Econo Lodge down the street. It wasn't a pleasant experience by any stretch of the imagination.
First of all, the place uses real keys, not magnetic ones. While getting ready for my wedding, in a hectic moment, my friend accidentally threw my room key in her purse. When we got back to the inn around three o'clock in the morning, absolutely exhausted from a long day of decorating, the ceremony, dancing, and cleaning up, we realized we didn't have our key. We proceeded to ring the doorbell, knock on the door, and call repeatedly for over a half hour. Our efforts were completely ignored! We were locked out, on the most special night of our lives. We were furious. It was a horrible ending to a perfect day. In the end, I had to call my friend and she had to make the half hour drive back to Conway in the middle of the night to return our room key.
No one even attempted to clean our room on the first day. On our second and last day, the cleaning lady just barged in on us at nine o'clock in the morning!
It being our honeymoon, my husband paid an extra $50 or so to have chocolate-covered strawberries sent to the room. We waited and waited on them, not sure if the staff was planning to surprise us. When we finally had to ask about the strawberries, we were told, "It's too late now."
At eight o'clock in the evening, on our HONEYMOON? We didn't even get an apology! Unacceptable.
The breakfast was just okay. It was nothing special at all. Honestly, I've had much better at Denny's or The Waffle House.
Overall, we found The Cypress Inn to be outrageously overpriced. The rooms are grossly outdated, with 20 year old subpar televisions and VCR's. Our room (The Wisteria) was small and cramped. There was no mirror or sink in the bathroom, which was just weird. They were located all the way around the corner by the window. It was highly inconvenient.
I would never stay at this establishment again, and I would never recommend it to anyone.
Thanks for ruining our honeymoon!

In response to this review, we would like to say in no uncertain terms, if you have a problem or complaint about your stay at a Bed and Breakfast, please inform the owner and give them a chance to make things right. Most innkeepers we know would appreciate the chance to make things perfect for our guests instead of being blindsided by an awful review. This guest never said a word to us about their unhappiness.

The Cypress Inn, although a relatively new building, was built to invoke a feeling of charm and memories of a time more kind and gentle. We are not a high-tech modern, Boutique hotel with the newest televisions, radios and room dressings. We would like you to feel that you are staying with your grandmother or maiden aunt, who has really good taste. Our Inn is filled with antiques, oriental rugs and china/crystal displays. We are not the Ritz Carlton, and we don’t want to be.

Regarding the key, this was NOTan oversight on the part of the Cypress Inn. We give everyone who checks-in a key to the front/back doors and to their room. It is not our responsibility to make sure that they have the key on their person. We have only twelve rooms, and we do not have front desk staff that is operational twenty-four hours per day. We are very sorry that we did not hear the door or the phone at three am! The guests were not being ignored by any means; there was not a staff member awake to take care of them.

Regarding the cleaning of the room, the first day of their stay - Saturday - we happily gave them an early check in so they could get ready for their wedding – the room was clean when they checked in. We do not provide two cleanings per day. On Sunday, we doubt anyone barged into their room at 9:00 am because we are still serving breakfast until 10:00 am. Our housekeepers know to always knock first before entering a guest’s room. We will remind them again that this is a strict policy here at the Inn. If the room is a check-out, the guest is not disturbed by staff. On the day of their check-out (Monday), these guests had breakfast with us. During the week, we normally have business travelers staying in the Inn who prefer a pretty basic business day breakfast, coffee, juice, fresh fruit, pastry, bacon, eggs, home-fries or grits. On the weekends, we serve a more elaborate breakfast for our guests. This couple chose to skip breakfast on Sunday. Most of our guests say that our breakfasts are delicious, and our reviews support that opinion.

The chocolate covered strawberries ($20 – not $50) were overlooked by us, and we apologized many times. We did not charge for any amenities, and we gave this couple a gift bag of locally made soaps and bath salts, to again apologize for overlooking the chocolate covered strawberries.

We are sorry they thought the room was over-priced and cramped. Our prices are the same as they were seven years ago when we bought the Inn, and their room was a lovely queen size room overlooking the marina/river. The bath area includes a Jacuzzi tub and toilet. The sink and mirror are in a corner of the room, which was built make it convenient for two people to get ready at the same time. All of our rooms are on a virtual internet tour at our website, and this is the room they chose. If they were not happy with their selection, and told us, we would have gladly moved them to another room. Our Inn is a member of the Select Registry, and we are AAA 4-Diamond. We have maintained these standards for over 10 years, and continually pass our annual reviews. As you can see from the other comments left here, most of our guests are very satisfied with the services we provide. The Econo Lodge offers a different hotel standard than we do. Perhaps this couple is right that they would have been happier somewhere else.

I needed a last minute place for an unscheduled vacation close to home. This was perfect! The atmosphere is very relaxing, charming and cozy. Con ways river walk is amazing. The innkeepers provide excellent "southern hospitality" balancing meeting needs with thoughtful privacy.

We spent 2 nights here, a Friday and Saturday on the first weekend of June. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Room and bathroom was very clean, as well as the public areas of the B&B. The back of the B&B faced the Conway Marina, and had a covered porch with rocking chairs. Nice, relaxing spot!! Our breakfast on both mornings started with fresh fruit and coffee and juice, then a full hot breakfast was served. A fridge in the dining area had complimentary soft drinks, water, beer, and wine. A dish of cookies was always sitting on the dining bar. Our hosts were helpful in recommending GOOD local places to eat. This B&B is within walking distance of the Conway Riverfront area. You don't want to miss this place if you are traveling in the area.

We chose the Cypress Inn for a brief one day stay on our way to vacation in Savannah. After our B & B experience in Savannah, we could not wait to come back to the Cypress Inn the following weekend. Our lovely room overlooked the marina on the Waccamaw River. The Inn is quite beautiful and extremely well maintained. As the Inn's owners were on vacation, Kate and Steve did an excellent job in making us comfortable. The Riverwalk is absolutely beautiful and it was fun to just sit on the porch and chat with the people walking by. Conway is a quaint, charming small town and we loved it! For those who are so inclined, Myrtle Beach is a short drive away as are other beach towns. We are certainly looking forward to going back to the Cypress Inn and Conway--as for Savannah--never!

My friend got married here and it poured the whole day....the dj equipment was rained on and ruined. Which by the way she had to pay for because the inn refused to allow the dj to be inside. The guests were mortified beyond belief as the evening went on. This was not how i expected her special day to turn out. I didnt stay there so i can review the rooms. But my friends mom did stay here before and said it wasn't all that good. Very expensive and the room was tiny. The food at the reception was okay, the staff were carring food in their hands without gloves and the rest of the evning the innkeepers sat drinking instead of cutting cake, etc. I felt so bad for my friends and would never recomend to have a wedding here. In fact the innkeepers were talking about how there is another wedding in a week... Too bad i can't warn them :(

in answer the this review I would like to add a few facts without violating confidentiality between facility and guests.
I spoke to the dj yesterday and he stated he had no problem whatsoever with HIS equipment due to weather, loved working our venue and would be happy to put his comments in writing.
On a guest book comment written by one set of parents used adjectives such as wonderful place, cozy friendly and good food. Stay was wonderful.
No, we do not wear gloves to serve, nor hairnets, but are certified in food safety and excellent sanitation practices.
I was never asked to cut the cake
We do 25-30 weddings per year and our reviews for events equal those for our Inn "excellent".

The Cypress Inn has hosted my parents who have visited me several times during my years as a student and post-graduation at Coastal Carolina University. The rooms are all very cozy and instantly create a sense of home--no many how miles away from yours you may be. Every staff member goes above and beyond to make you feel truly welcome and at ease. Anything you need, they will help you. Total relaxation for their guests is what they strive for. Breakfast served in the morning (always different, too!), was phenomenal. We love the friendly atmosphere and will definitely be back again soon :)
