“Awesome Lunch Spot”
Reviewed May 30, 2014 via mobile

We go here about once a month for lunch during the week. It is consistently fantastic each and every time.

The burgers are always fresh and made to order. The fries and onion rings are great. It is usually very busy during lunch. Make sure you bring cash or check, no cards allowed.

Do yourself a favor, go here for lunch!

“The best chili cheeseburger!!”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

Mack's is located across the street from the Columbia Fire Dept. Headquarters and main fire station and is only open from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mon-Fri. It is in a building that used to house a grocery on one side and a liquor store on the other. At some point in the last 20 years, the liquor store closed, the dividing wall was removed and Mack's took over the whole building -- the two front doors remain. (Until recently, it was still listed in the phone book as "Mack's Cash Grocery" but now it goes by the plain "Mack's Restaurant".) This is a unique dining experience where you get in line (which often runs out the back door at lunchtime) and place your sandwich order when you reach the back end of the counter. When you get to the register to pay, your sandwich is waiting and you then tell the staff what you want to drink and whether you wants fries, onion rings or dessert. Somehow, when you take your food, there is always a table available, even during the lunch rush -- it just works out! I strongly recommend the chili cheeseburger. When you reach the counter to order, simply say, "chili cheeseburger, all the way, cut in half". It is much easier to handle if you have them cut it -- and, oh yes, don't forget to get a fork -- you'll want to eat all of the stuff that falls out onto your plate! Enjoy!

“Awesome Fresh Made Food Served Quick!”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

We just recently discovered Mack's Restaurant, but all of us agree that it serves one of the best cheese burgers in Columbia for the money. They make a good chicken sandwich too, although it’s not quite as good as those at Drake’s Duck-In. In addition to these staples, they serve a varied menu including many breakfast offerings, hot dogs, salads, other sandwiches and fried chicken. Everything is made fresh to order and you can customize it as you see fit. I really like the double pimento cheese burger - better than Pawley’s Front Porch or Burger 77 at half the price. The food is usually ready by the time the cashier has rung you up. Our bill for 3, including fries and drinks has always been under $20.00. They do a brisk lunch time business, but we’ve never had to wait for long. The line forms in the back, so you may want to just go in the back door. It is one of those local joints that I’ve driven by a thousand times without ever realizing that it was there (directly across from the Fire Station). One thing that really sets them apart is the friendly staff, who actually seem to care about making you happy. Although it is centrally located near downtown Columbia on Laurel St., there is plenty of free parking, even around lunch time. This a definite must-visit for anyone searching for an awesome burger. The only quirk’s are they are just open for Breakfast and Lunch (till about 3:30) and they only accept cash or checks - no credit cards. But don’t let that stop you as you can’t beat awesome!

“Best old fashioned burger in town”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

A hidden jewel...one of those places you would not stop unless someone told you about it.
Go in the back door during lunch and enjoy their fast service. The burgers and onion rings cannot be matched anywhere else.

If you have a group, suggest you avoid the noonish crowd in order to get a table.

“Awesome burgers, dogs, and onion rings”
Reviewed January 4, 2013 via mobile

This place is awesome. Very fast service. The burgers are great. The slaw dogs are great. The onion rings are great. The fries were just fries, but still fine. If I didn't live an hour away I might want to go back for supper! Try it, you won't be disappointed!
