We stayed at the Hilton Columbia Center following a death in a family, and it was the perfect cocoon from which to plan the memorial and nourish ourselves with room service and sleep in the evenings. The hotel and room were spotless and luxurious. The staff could not have been more solicitous, and the kitchen was excellent. (We particularly recommend the shrimp cocktail and the broccoli au gratin.) We had our black Lab with us and he was provided bowls and a special bed. The location is within walking distance of lovely restaurants, stores, and a Starbucks. As a bonus, the Mexican restaurant right across the street, Monterrey, is excellent as well (and inexpensive).

This is a wonderful place when you want to travel in a little luxury.

We stayed here for a wedding and it turned out to be a great place to stay. The staff was great, the room comfortable and location, well you are on the campus of South Carolina near the evening life places. Simply put, it was a blast.

Very comfortable Bed, Very Clean, Free Internet, Complimentary water, Plenty of power outlets, both AC and USB, overall accommodations were excellent, had minor issues with very slow leak in toilet which I didn't even notice until last night and the refrigerator was noisy, but unplugging it solved the issue as I didn't need it.

We were in town for a concert at the Arena, which made this hotel's location great because we could walk -- and we happened to be there to enjoy the 80 degree weather Columbia had in December! There is a great restaurant on-site -- Ruth's Chris -- so you don't have to walk far for a great meal. As we left our room to take a walk, the cleaning staff asked if we wanted our room cleaned. We of course said we did & thought that meant they were going in at that moment. A few hours later, we checked our room but it was not done yet; a few hours after that, still not done. Since we had to get ready for our concert, we decided to get a quick shower before the cleaning staff would finally come in; however, when we entered the room, we realized the staff had already been there even though NOTHING WAS CLEANED ! I even took a picture of the bed that looked like my 4-year-old grandson made! We knew the staff had been there because of the way the bedspread was tucked in the sides of the bed -- the pillows were still indented from where we slept & not arranged in any reasonable way. You couldn't tell that the bathroom was cleaned except the staff did leave us two bottles of water; however, the towels we used from our previous day were still on the floor & not replaced. Actually, we simply laughed about the whole thing because we have never experienced anything like it in all our travels. Absolutely nothing was cleaned to include a creamer we borrowed from the restaurant & left on the bureau for the staff to return -- we ended up finding a staff person to replace our towels so we could shower but she could not find any face cloths in her bag. It truly was a funny experience since nothing was so bad that couldn't be fixed -- it was more of an incredulous experience! When you walk into the hotel you think of elegance and upscale -- unfortunately, I don't think any pride was taken in the staff's cleaning responsibilities, but overall, I would certainly return when in Columbia. And I certainly don't want to disparage the rest of the staff as "almost" everyone was very friendly & helpful !

It is very disappointing how poorly this property is maintained. I'm surprised Hilton will let them keep their contract / flag and there's no way they can rate to a AAA Four Diamond. This is my second multi-day stay at this property since Jun 2013.

Our small suite on the 4th floor and the 4th floor corridor is absolutely filthy, not from just a day or two of neglect but months of neglect. The most disgusting part was a large somewhat freshly dried "loogey" of snot on the wall and side table next to the bed. Gross!

Literally every wall and door in our room was filthy.

Every guest room door and the wall covering in the 4th floor corridor from the elevator to our room was filthy dirty as well and these are all medium taupe colored walls not white. The carpet is so worn in the corridors that the seams are loose so they've been taped with black duct tape. A somewhat funny thing was a dirty bar glass leaning in the corner of the corridor that sat there from the Friday we arrived until the Tuesday we departed. Who knows how long it was there but we just watched it as a test to see how long it would sit.

The lobby is nice and clean but the dirty hand-prints surrounding the elevator buttons looks like a roadside gas station but that basically matches what we saw on the 4th floor.

The staff was apologetic and responsive to the problems when I requested a manager on duty to inspect the room. They gave us a one-night credit and maybe some Hilton points for the problem but frankly we'd rather have a room we were not grossed out in.

The bed was comfy, the shower ample and the room was quiet and peaceful. Be aware the back side of the hotel faces a live music college bar. We stayed front side.

The hotel is located adjacent to the USC campus and there's pretty much every food group of restaurants within 100 yards of the front door so convenience is high. The Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on-site is good for breakfast and dinner.

$22 for valet is really high for the Columbia market and priced more like LA or ATL. There's lesser expensive self park if you want.

I've waited four days to cool down and reflect before writing this review. Cleanliness problems at this level come from management and / or ownership simply not paying attention, following up or cutting corners. I don't blame the housekeeping staff for this level of dirt. Our gut instinct is the owner and / or manager of this property comes from a mindset of smaller roadside motels. I've never even seen a Hampton or the lesser Hilton brands this bad.

Obviously the property has good ratings here but for some reason they have let their housekeeping and maintenance slide.

This was our forth year in a row stay at least two nights here. We get a suite so the grand kids get their own room to watch the shows they want and sleep on the sofa bed which they love to do. This lets my wife and I watch our shows in our room. The family has plenty of room to relax and not get in each others way. the beds are comfortable and we have always found the rooms clean and well stocked. the staff has always been very helpful and pleasant, there is a nice bar if you are interested. Hotels aren't cheap to stay at but if we don't rest well I feel like I threw my money away. I feel like I get my moneys worth here and really enjoy the hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for a long weekend get away and to watch the Gamecocks. From the moment we arrived and were greeted at the front desk, they were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a lot of questions about our surroundings and they were happy to answer all our questions. Not to mention they gave excellent suggestions. The wonderful costumer service from this staff made our trip even better! Thank you
