“One of the top 5 in Columbia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2008

Blue Marlin has changed several times over the years. When it first opened, everything was tops! It was among one of the first restaurants to open in the now trendy "Vista". The building was an old train station transformed into an upscale restaurant. Everything went well for several years until the owners sold out. The food was not the same. Not long after that there was a fire causing closure for quite awhile. The original owners repurchased and brought back the flavors. The menu is updated on a regular basis and is one of my top 5 resturants in Columbia. A few dishes that truly stand out are:
Seafood Gumbo: Outstanding (tell them to leave off the rice)
Oysters Bienville: Great (oysters, sausage etc in small fry. pan
Shrimp & Grits: Excellent (creamest grits around)
Tortilla Slaw: Unique (marinated shredded cabbage with pumpkin seeds and crispy tortills strips)
Collards: Great (if not with entree ask for free servings)
Fresh Sour Dough Bread with Whipped Butter: Best in Columbia
Fried Green Tomatoes: Tasty!!!
Many other seafood dishes and steaks. Great Bar also.

“Pricey for what you get”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2008

Compared to some of the other restaurants in the Vista in Columbia, I thought this one was extremely pricey. Ie At the tapa bar, blue, fried green tomatoes were 3.95 compared to 8.95 here. One of their recommended specialties was sold out which is why I opted for an appetizer and salad. Portions were small. (which I generally don't mind) Nothing to write home about.

I had the she crab soup and the oyster & shrimp skillet bienville. The soup was good but everything else was decent at best. The meal definitely not worth the price. I've had other things at this restraunt as well and it was basically the same story.
