Don't miss out on the delicious shrimp and grits. Local ground grits are delicious. The gravy does not over power the shrimp. Good selection of mixed drinks and wines. Great wait staff.

We've made numerous visits to Columbia, but finally ate our first meal at Blue Marlin this time around. It was good, but given the ratings, I was expecting a little bit more. There were also a few missteps related to service. Nothing big, but still. We missed the note on the menu that you could order bread as a starter. It would have been nice if that was offered. The wrong drinks were brought to our table initially. I had ordered a side of greens, but had to ask twice before they finally got brought over. One person at our table caught the server to order coffee, but he didn't ask anyone else before he walked away. I would have like some also! All the fish/seafood dishes were very good! The Sangria was tasty and the creme brulee cheesecake was terrific! The ambiance of the restaurant was also just ok. Nothing special.

Very comfortable and food was very good. Had the shrimp and grits, and my wife and could have shared this - unfortunately she was back home in NY. Average service, but friendly. My colleague had the salmon which looked and smelled wonderful.

There is a nice bar area here. We initially had a drink and received good service. However, after dinner we went back to the bar, but the bartender was busy talking with another employee and never took notice of us. We had to interrupt him to get his attention. We had requested a quiet table, and the hostess took note of the request. We were seated at a booth along the back window. The waiter seemed very flustered when we were seated, and it wasn't a busy night. The appetizer platter was very good, and included fried green tomatoes, crab, shrimp and pimiento spread. Two of the individuals ordered salads, but only one came out. We had to ask for the second salad. Then, shortly after receiving the salad, the entrees were delivered. Very poor service. Food should never be brought while the appetizers are still being consumed, The special was filet with crab, which was good. The vista chicken had absolutely no flavor and was not good at all. The fish entrée was good. The waiter seemed to be very absent throughout the meal, and our drinks were not refilled either. While most of the food was good, with the exception of the chicken, it only receives an average rating because of the poor service. Maybe it was an off night for the waiter and they deserve a second chance.

We stopped in Blue Marlin to try some appetizers and even though it wasn't a perfect experience we were pleased we did. The restaurant is a little chopped up and dark, we were seated against the far wall of the restaurant which is closed off from the majority of the other diners. We immediately regretted not picking a table outside. Service was just ok, our server didn't seem to know what he was doing. We ordered the Petite Shrimp and Grits and the Charleston Crab Cakes. Both were very good. We will return to try more next time we are in town.
