“Beautiful grounds”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

I have not been inside but have been to the grounds many times and they are always clean and beautiful especially in the fall when you can experience the glorious colors of fall in SC. Some trees are yellow, others are brown or red. It is just a gorgeous medley. Several statues and monuments are erected on the grounds whic make for very interesting historical perspective. It is very picturesque as well. Make sure to add it to your itinerary when you visit Columbia.

“Guided tours are best on the first Saturday of the month!”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

As stated above this is the ideal time to go. You will learn so much about the statehouse that may be missed on self-guided tour. Most of the workers are well seasoned in South Carolina history and share so much insight. The crowd is not usually large and you have all the time you need to see the grounds and inside the building. A great place to take the kids or family for a great outing...and its educational. Cant beat that. Did I mention its also FREE? There you go, no excuses. Check it out.

“Lots of history!”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Beautiful area to walk around and observe all the monuments, trees and history. The stars on the capitol building cover old cannon ball shots. How awesome is that for history?! Also had a tour of the inside with a very knowledgeable curator.

“Nice visit!”
Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

We just left the capitol and really liked it! Easy to find, nice area, found parking meter easily right on grounds. Friendly gift shop people are helpful. Smaller capitol easy to tour. Pretty grounds with lots of shade. Worth an hour to check it out!

“Made from state stone”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

Constructed from blue granite. This is a beautiful building with a less than impressive governor. Stars mark spots where building was hit by canon fire during Sherman's march to the sea and other Civil War historical memorials. Across from Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. The tour of the church and graveyard are quite beautiful and educational.
