The hotel was a little dated but okay. Price seemed to fit hotel. Michael the night manager was very helpful with a special request. Valet service was helpful. Columbia is not exactly "upscale." Decent place for decent price, not much to choose from in Columbia.

When my husband arrived to check into a room he had reserved for king sized bed, they had no king sized rooms ready at 4 pm. I had a migraine so we just took a queen. We were going to a show so we asked for the front desk to arrange a taxi and they offered the shuttle. The driver dropped us off less than a mile from the hotel and gave us the number to the hotel. After the show let out, we called the hotel and were told that they would not pick us up. The desk clerk had a nasty attitude and my husband asked her to call a taxi but it never came. We finally got our own cab. The next day I tried to get onto the internet at the hotel. The website says that there is a charge of $9.95 unless you are a platinum member and would have been given a package upon checking in. When I called the front desk to tell them that we were not given a package, the clerk was just rude and said just listen and I am going to give you the password, there is no charge. I would never stay here again or recommend this place to anyone else. I love the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta but these folks failed when it comes to service.

Stayed at this hotel for one night for a wedding. When we came back to the room, we discovered that some of our cash has been stolen. Made a complain to the manager right away and they promised to look into it and call us back the next day. The next day came, no call and we had to wait 11 days before we were finanlly told that the case has been closed and that they had looked into it and the suspected employee didnt commit the crime. They still didnt call back, we had to call them before we were able to get the update. Poor management and customer service.

We were in Columbia for the USC vs. Arkansas game and got 3 rooms at the Columbia Marriott. We had a great time. The hotel staff was wonderful. Jason Reader, the General Manager was very helpful in helping with our reservations. Michelle at the front desk helped to get us checked in early on Friday. Liliana (hope that is spelled right!) was great in the restaurant. We look forward to coming back again for another game and visit.

As far as the room it was clean, coffee and water was provided, so were the bath essentials. BUT! The pillows were horrible even though they were down feathers they held no form at all. Free interenet was not provided and thought it should since this is a business hotel. One of the bus men was rude when I ask to borrow a cart to carry materials to the parking garage which is a long way from the business rooms. The breakfast was expensive with burnt coffee (not one pot but two pots of burnt coffee)

Make it a point to say "HI" to Christian at the front desk. He's professional, personable, knows the area, and works to make your stay a special and happy one. He is one of the best front desk folks I've met in decades of business travel!!

In response to some of the reviews, the hotel rooms are cleaned by a good group of staff, but they do need some "spring cleaning" touch ups of wall marks, etc.

The parking garage is dark and grim-----more keeping with a big city.....and with signs warning patrons to be careful. I certainly was when I walked alone to my car. If you're concerned, use valet service.

I'm a light sleeper but only heard laughter a few minutes one early evening. The hallway leading into the room away from the public hall probably helped with that.

If you like the outdoors, go to Congaree National Park-----they have a boardwalk into one of the oldest hardwood forests in the world. Lots of record sized trees. On weekends they offer free canoe trips ----reserve two weeks in advance. It's about 30 minutes from the Marriott and well worth a day of exploration.

Also would recommend the Columbia zoo (15 min. away) where you can walk with baby Kanagroos (two feet away, no fence) feed giraffes (certain times of the day) and be amazed by the gorillas. Going around their feeding time is well worth it as they come up close! Not often you get to be face to face with a gorilla (one inch glass between you!) Grea natural environments instead of cages for all their inhabitants. You could have breakfast or lunch at Lizzards Thicket on the way there or back. Southern meals under 10.00 including drink and tip!
