“Great room and service, but no web?”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

The Marriot of course is always a fine hotel for all to stay in , we decided on a small getaway and was not disappointed the staff, including housekeeping were superbly nice an attentive.
Myrealy issue is the cahrge for the internet, 10.00 daily , I thought we evolved from this type of cost and not evern the smallest of a continental breakfast. I stayed in two similiar hotels in differntn major cities(Savannah and San Antonio) and they did not charge for breakfast or the web. Marriott, please it would be wise to correct this, I'm sure you cannot be in that dire in finances as to offer at least muffins and fruit and web to patrons. But don not change the hiring of genuinely happy employess, oh yes the gym pool were a great touch much better than most .

Room Tip: there are many nice bitros ands cafes clsoe by and the do use the pool and fitness center

This motel is in the heart of downtown Columbia, close to shops on Main Street and Restaurants. It is very clean and the staff is extremely helpful and professional. Our room was right at the elevator and we never heard a sound!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, no extra requests needed. There are no microwave or friges for all the room...

Upon entering from the parking garage, we were a little apprehensive, it looked very dated. Happy to say the Lobby area is very nice; service iis excellent. It was what impressed me the most about this hotel! The concierge lounge is better than most in bigger cities especially the staff. They went above and beyond my expectations. This is the place to stay for business.

This is a standard full service marriott that is a bit dated. The staff was excellent and very accomodating. It's a great location if you plan on staying around the downtown area. Walking distance to some really good restaurants and bars, as well as the state capital. The rooms have an older feel, but are spacious and clean. Breakfast buffet is excellent. The value for what you get is worth a stay at this property

This is a standard well located Marriott that looks to be between 20-30 years old. In general the public areas are well updated. The hotel shares a parking garage with an office building, and that is a different story altogether. This garage is old, not well updated or maintained, and in many areas just plain filthy. No one has cleaned the elevator in some time. The circular entry door between the garage and the hotel was disassembled. Parking was free and in this case you got what you paid for. To get from my car to my room I had to use three different elevators.
I used a Priceline reservation and was checked in without fuss and given the password for free internet. The room was spotless, the television was a large flat screen with a great picture and a good selection of channels. Bathroom amenities were nice, the bathroom was a bit small but pretty normal for a building of this age. The mattress was great, they sell a set through a catalogue you can peruse in the room.
Staff interaction was minimal but what there was was very friendly and helpful. No complaints.
The breakfast buffet was in my opinion not up to snuff. The eggs and hash browns were not very good. Some of the sliced bread would not fit in the toaster. There was an omelet station that I did not use and I'm sure a custom omelet would have raised my opinion.
All in all I certainly got my money's worth; however, had I been paying rack rates my perception would be much different.

I've always stayed at the Sheraton when in town but this time we were at the Mariott instead. The lobby is pretty but the rest of it is in pretty bad need of a remodel. The carpet on the stairs down from the second level is balding and everything looks a little dated and run down. Co-worker had to switch rooms because hot water didn't work. My room was right next to the ice/vending machine and they were super loud. If I didn't have the tv on I could hear the buzz in my room. Once again, reserved a king bed and got two doubles but since I was travelling alone this time, I didn't really care. The place is saved however by the great staff and free wi-fi was a very nice touch. Also, even though the room looked old, it also seemed to be very clean. The location is good, you are walking distance from lots of good food and coffee. Parking is a little pricey but consistent with other places in the area.

Small rooms -old - needs a remodel. No hot water without asking for a repair. WiFi stopped working. Good breakfast in concierge lounge. Left self park garage before 8:00 am, didnt have to pay for parking. Very comfortable Marriott beds and pillows. Quiet place for a sound night sleep.
