The Meeting Street Inn
Ranked #8 of 39 Charleston B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 8, 2009

Stayed at Meeting Street Inn July 21-24. We had 2 rooms on 2nd floor as I was traveling with my sister, mom and aunt. We LOVED this hotel in middle of historic Charleston. The BEST staff, wonderful rooms, great breakfast in a garden setting with beautiful fountains, and lovely wine and cheese every afternoon. Hotel is across the street from Market and very close to major restautants, the Battery, and parks.
I will definitely stay here again.

I traveled to Meeting Street with a large party and everyone enjoyed the inn. The staff was attentive, informative, and kind. They never hesitated to meet our needs and always asked if they could do more. The rooms are absolutely beautiful, many with four poster beds, elegant wallpaper, and clean facilities. The location is fantastic, across the street from a main tourist area (the Market/restaurants) and a short walk to area museums, popular restaurants, and the Battery. I would return to Meeting Street over and over again!

This was our second visit to the Meeting Street Inn. We loved it so much the first time we stayed that when we got home we ordered a Four Poster Rice Bed. The rooms look just like what I imagine a bedroom looked like in the Antebellum South!!
The inn is so conveinent. We really enjoyed the nightly Cocktail Hour. We had a few glasses of wine and then walked down the street to our favorite restaurant (Hyman's). We also enjoyed the iced tea, lemonade and water available at all times. We only took advantage of the breakfast one day and it was good, too.
The staff was courteous and helpful. Everyone on staff was very friendly. We arrived early and they held our luggage and let us check in early!!
All in all a wonderful stay. We will be back!

We absolutely loved our stay at Meeting Street Inn! The rooms were nostalgic and tastefully decorated. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The beds are comfortable. The air conditioning unit is right next to one of the beds, so you'll want the most hot natured person to sleep there. The rooms don't supply wash cloths. We improvised and never asked for any.

We loved the wine/cheese (and more) reception in the evenings. Though, there wasn't enough seating. They have a live guitarist on the weekends. I would suggest that they have some kind of background music for this on the week days as well as it was so nice on the weekend and then on the week day, it was a bit disappointing ot have nothing. The continental breakfast is yummy too!

We loved the location! Make sure you try "Toast" restaurant right next door. I recommend their peach martini! The hot tub isn't heated in the summer. You can use it to relax and 'get wet' to cool off, however. We loved the courtyard... very relaxing. The birds are all over you if you sit out there and try to eat your breakfast.

We loved our stay and can't wait to go back!

loved this place. It is clean. Deco is wonderful and staffs are incredible. Start with great and casual breakfast in terrace. just about all rooms has its private balconies. A/C works VERY well. Close to everything. End day with complimentary wine and hour d'oeuvre and live music!! We hated to leave.

We stayed in a single on the 4th floor - next time, I'll reserve a double which has its own little veranda accessed through pretty French doors. The service was excellent, the rooms clean and nicely appointed. Bathroom was old but not vintage, but was comfortable and efficient. The outdoor porch area on the ground floor (called the Piazza) was fragrant with flowers, breezy, cool and inviting. Staff was helpful and cheerful. Breakfast was buns and bread and hot egg sandwich, plenty of coffee, tea, cereal, juice, but we breakfasted elsewhere twice just for variety. Afternoon wine and cheese event also included non-alcoholic beverages like lemonade and iced tea. Location was fabulous! Across the street from the Confederacy Museum and the Marketplace, walking distance (but sometimes a hike) to numerous attractions. I really can't wait to return; the hotel was perfect for our needs and within our means. Minor complaints: wall-mounted a/c unit a bit noisy, street noise early in a.m. (buses, landscaping equipment) but tolerable.

Every January we go to Charleston on business.

Actually we're really going to Charleston on a post-Christmas break, the business part is just the excuse.

Every year but one we've stayed at the Meeting Street Inn, after that year we came rushing back and have never strayed again!

We make our reservations for the next year when we check out from the current year.

Why?

Some reasons:

The Inn:
- gorgeous peach and cream façade,
- well-tended property,
- courtyard with fountains,
- shrubbery and hanging plants blooming even in January,
- lovely up-scale jaccuzi in the courtyard surrounded by tall palmetto palms,
- sometimes a silvery full moon in a black velvet sky is thrown in for free (it was this last visit),
- wonderful location on Meeting Street just across from the Market.

Staff:
- friendly,
- helpful,
- accommodating,
- gracious,
- Southern hospitality embodied.

Afternoon Reception:
- complimentary,
- 5:30 - 6:30 every evening in the Lobby,
- light hors d'oeurves,
- wine,
- musician on Friday nights,
- offers an opportunity to meet some of the other guests,
- very pleasant.

Breakfast:
- complimentary,
- 7-10 in the Lobby,
- elegant presentation,
- light fare: fruit, cereals, ham or sausage rolls, coffee and tea, juice, etc.,
- can be taken up to your room on a silver tray,
- local newpaper included--nice touch.

We stay in the same room every year, one of the deluxe rooms at the back of the courtyard on the third floor, and it has become our home in Charleston.

The room has a 'fridge to store cold items, very convenient.

Upgrades since our first stay include a plasma flat-screen tv, french doors opening onto a private balcony over-looking the courtyard--nice place for morning coffee--with a bench, table and chairs, and additonal furnishings.

This is a character property with all the charm and quirks that implies, but for those who are looking for an immersion into the historic district of lovely Charleston, the Meeting Street Inn is the perfect accompaniment.
