The Meeting Street Inn

Reviewed August 26, 2013

We loved our stay in this hotel, it was so beautiful, everything you think of Charleston is represented in this hotel. The rooms were adorable, the service great and the courtyard amazaing. The best thing of all was the price, it was so reasonable taking into consideration that it is in the heart of historic downtown.

About the only "plus" I can give this property is its convenient location. It's very tired looking, rundown, and dirty in the public areas. The piazza furniture needed new cushions--they were worn, dirty, burned holes in some (even though there's a no smoking sign posted). The entire piazza area had a dirty appearance--a good daily cleaning is apparently not done, the flowers were in sad condition. Only the fountain and koi pond were nice. The beds were comfortable and the room was spacious enough, though a bit dark, but arrangement of the furniture in the room did not allow us to sit in a chair and watch tv--had to lay on the bed to see the tv. The elevator is not air-conditioned and in hot, humid Charleston (in August), it was a bit stifling cooped up in that small hot elevator, even briefly. Plenty of food offerings for breakfast, but using the lobby for serving breakfast is just not appropriate. Dishes were being washed in immediate area where breakfast was being served, and the dirty dish carts + trash can were placed by lobby door on the piazza. Just not an "appetizing arrangement" along with dining on a dirty piazza. Tables were not cleaned after each use by guests. Owners of this property need to invest some $$$$ in refurbishing it and make some changes in operating standards.

I would like to thank this guest for taking the time to submit a review. I have to admit that upon inspection of the courtyard area, I feel as though there is definitely room for improvement. I found 2 seat cushions with a burn hole and have already replaced them. Although 90% of the courtyard is non- smoking, people do love to break the rules and it is an outdoor area. The placement of the dirty dishes and trash during the breakfast was a great observation. That issue has also been addressed and rectified. The cushions were custom made for the inn one year ago and replacement is not needed yet. This is a bed and breakfast inn located in a historic building; public space is limited and must be used for multiple purposes. In order to serve a very nice breakfast, the lobby must be used for the buffet breakfast we offer. The elevator is not air conditioned, it is located outside. The courtyard (piazza) is cleaned 2 to 3 times a day and I could not find any “sad” plants in the entire place. We are currently in the process of a total gut job on each bathroom, so I do feel as though the owners care about this property and that it is maintained at a much higher standard than is presented in this review.

The property was not too impressive, but the customer service from Ann at the front desk was over the top excellent. She was so helpful when we needed extra pillows and help with the internet . She was very friendly and welcoming. Customer service was well worth the stay and will keep us coming back if needed.

Room Tip: The contractor's discount was very helpful financially. Very close to the airport, Boeing, and...

From the check-in process to check-out everything was great at The Meeting Street Inn. Everyone was very personable and informing. Our room was top notch. If I had any complaint the room was a bit dark. The location of The Meeting Street Inn is excellent. We were able to walk everywhere. We would definately stay again and recomment to our friends.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room on the first floor with the courtyard right outside your doon.

While the location is more "hotel
With breakfast" than the traditional B&B (small house)I expected, the service was top notch, and the room was clean and comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

We have stayed here 3 times now in the past sever years. Convenient location right near the straw market and historic district, make it easy to get places in town. Great, friendly staff comfortable rooms and superb breakfast. Love the courtyard gardens and main room.

My partner and I stayed for one night, and wanted to give this hotel a four star review - because many things about it were really very good. Location is extremely convenient, the staff were courteous and pleasant: check-in was a breeze, and our room (on the ground floor) was extremely nice. Breakfast was good, wine hour and the cheese accompaniments also, and the price represented good value. All in all this is a good choice in a good location, and deserving four stars.

Unfortunately during our stay in the hotel, we discovered a cockroach in our room. This might be a fact of life in this part of the world, but it may be a sign of lack of cleanliness. And it certainly interrupted our good night's sleep - we're not insect people!

On the other hand, as smokers we appreciated the option to smoke in the courtyard not far from our room. It wasn't close enough for the smell to get into the guestrooms, and was a very reasonable compromise.

Thanks for taking the time for the review. I hate to say that you are right. In our part of the country the "critters" sometimes crawl inside and it has nothing to do with cleanliness.
