The Meeting Street Inn

Reviewed September 24, 2012

This hotel did not feel clean, desperately needs updating, and the rooms are dark. It's like a motel with slightly more charm. Also, found it to be expensive for the value. Only good quality is that it is in a good location and the staff was friendly.

Thanks for the review. We do realize that period décor is not for everyone, but what sense would it make to have a modern inn in historic Charleston? The inn offers WIFI throughout the building. Each room has cable television, a refrigerator, a safe, iron, and hair dryer. The price point for the location is moderate to low for the historic district, do the homework, and shop around.

I could not have been more pleased with the Inn and their staff. We so enjoyed our room...feeling like princesses in the canopy beds. We were also lucky enough to have a balcony room which was nice. We enjoyed the wine & cheese in the afternoon as well prior to going out for dinner. The Inn was was close to the Market that it was so nice. We were able to walk everyone that we wanted to see, eat & shop while in Charleston. We will definitely be back.

I booked my room last-minute when I found out friends were coming into town. The staff were pleasant, very helpful, and even honored my AAA discount when the online booking service did not. The rooms are small but quaint and have everything you need - full bath, TV, armoire, free wireless Internet, comfortable mattress, AC. There is a lovely side courtyard to sit and eat your breakfast or just lounge. The location is central and makes both King Street shopping and the historic downtown area accessible by walking. There is parking nearby, and though it will cost you an additional $14, I thought it was worth it not to struggle with Charleston parking. I'd say the only downside was the cost - you do pay for convenience. Would definitely stay again, and I recommend you call the Inn directly to make reservations at 843-723-1882 rather than booking on-line.

We stayed here over Labor Day weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Service was great. Afternoon Wine reception was a bonus and breakfast was very good.

Rooms have a historical feel as well as the building.

This Inn is not as fancy as others, but also is $50 to $100 per night cheaper. Hard to beat this value.

Parking is a few blocks away, but walking is part of visiting Charleston.

We will stay here again.

Stayed here b/c of the price point, while my son moved into CofC. The rooms are spacious, but old fashioned. If you go for that kind of thing, canopy bed and old wooden furniture, then it is pleasant. What is VERY unpleasant, is the smell of smoke. My guess about this is that the rooms are smoked in, even tho of course there is a no smoking rule. I spoke with the management about it, and they were very surprised. They took some money off my next reservation, but I have since cancelled to stay at a more modern hotel during parents weekend. We will see how that goes..........

The pluses are: great location, wifi, nice breakfast and cheese and wine, and staff are all lovely
The minuses are: old fashioned, smelly, a bit noisy.

My wife & I enjoyed a fantastic two night stay at The Meeting Street Inn from August 18-20 with my brother and sister in law, who had recommended this to us, with my wife making the decision after reading many reviews here on TripAdvisor.

While not "five star luxury" The Meeting Street Inn itself is very quaint and historical, and in a GREAT location. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed, and functional. Our bed was extremely comfortable.

The highlight for the four of us was the exceptionally warm and friendly service that we received throughout our stay at The Meeting Street Inn. Not that we are ever particularly demanding, but nothing...absolutely NOTHING seemed to be an imposition or a request that couldn't be handled satisfactorily, and in a happy and friendly manner.

The wine and cheese tasting each evening is a nice touch, and a great way to start before heading out to enjoy a nice dinner in any of the numerous (two of which I have reviewed here on TripAdvisor) dining establishments for which Charleston is so well-regarded.

Breakfast each morning offered a nice choice.

There is obviously a wide range of accommodation from which to choose in Charleston, but when it comes to location, comfort, service, and value for money, for us, The Meeting Street Inn is hard to beat.

We only stayed there for one night, but the staff is really nice, especially the maintenance lady (Kim ?), she helped us figure out what we could do around the area twice, once when we arrived then the next morning !
The room is good, the bed was comfortable, the only thing is that you can tell the hotel is old, it needs some updating, but it is charming though. It is clean, just not up to repair.
The breakfast buffet is way more than expected: croissants, chocolate croissants, pastries, muffins, cereals, french toast, burrito (?) made of eggs, onions and sausage, coffee, tea, OJ and grapefruit juices, and with the weather being so nice we were able to eat it outside on their gorgeous patio.
The location is the best part, almost across from the market, which is a must do by the way, and right in the middle of historic Charleston. We didn't use the car at all, if you like to walk you are right in the middle of the action !
When we will go back this is definitely where we will be staying again.
