This is a new hotel to the Marriott group and it is wonderful. Great staff, all really helpful, good shuttle bus, lovely pool and bar area, great concierge lounge and the rooms are great. Stay here if you can. Right next to the police station but lovely views of the park and river!

Marriott Hotels are usually nice, but this one is more than that. When we arrived our room was not ready, so they gave us gift cards for wine and flatbread. The hotel is not much to look at on the outside, but the inside is gorgeous, rooms huge, with a small refrigerator, in room safe, Bath and Body Works toiletries and Starbucks Coffee. The location is a little out of the way from downtown, but if you have a car, parking is FREE, and it takes about 5 minutes to get to anywhere. There is also a paved running path that takes you into town past the harbor(beautiful) and then to a small manmade lake area where you can walk, run, rest on a nice bench. The staff is extremely helpful with dinner reservations in town( and will tell you which ones are really good, bike rentals, information about the historic homes(which ones to see, which ones to skip). Top notch place-much cheaper than the ones downtown, and no crowds or traffic. Would definitely stay there again

We stayed in the Marriott for a wedding the weekend of May 30-June 1, 2008. On Friday night we were placed in room 330. What ever yu do , do not let anyone give you a room on the third floor on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, because the hotel has a bar at the end of the third floor called Aqua. To get to it, patrons must go to teh third floor and walk past the rooms ot get to the bar. All was fine until about 11:30 when deaparting patrons, who had had one too many would walk by the door talking loundly. So my wife and I could not get back to sleep until well after 2:00 am when the staff finally left( they were the loudest group). In all fairness to the hotel they moved us the next day, but at the hotels's prices there is no excuse for this type of noise. Other than that it is a nice property.

The Charleston Marriott converted from a Sheraton about a year ago and is a first-rate property (figure 4 ½ stars). However, it is not walking distance to the historic district so you need to use the shuttle ($6 per day, per person) or drive (which we did and found decent parking).

The hotel lobby has a modern feel with check-in pods as opposed to the typical front desk experience. There are bellmen available and a concierge desk in the lobby. An outside courtyard is right next to the lobby with comfortable chairs and a few gas powered fire pits at night. This is a great place to grab a drink at one of the bars (or bring your own) and hang out.

The restaurant called Sapphire is upscale and had a terrific breakfast buffet (with omelet & waffle station) for just $13. There is a bar that is attached and a small coffee shop if you prefer something quick. There is an outdoor bar on the 3rd floor (Aqua Terrace) that had excellent drink specials and was open late on the weekends. Ate at 82 Queen in the historic district and this was awesome.

The pool is small but efficient. The gym had nice, new equipment and had no problem finding availability. Parking is complimentary.

The rooms are average size and the bathroom fairly small with one sink. With 2 adults & 2 kids it was a little cramped. But the beds were queen sized as opposed to double. Bedding, as in all newer Marriott hotels, is comfortable. Room was clean.

The staff throughout the hotel was among the friendliest I have ever experienced.

This hotel would rate 5 stars if the rooms were a little bigger and it was walking distance to downtown. However, this is highly recommended and would happily stay here again. Enjoy Charleston.

We stayed one night in March. There was a hurricane that blew thru shortly after we checked in (7pm) so we didn't get to enjoy the hotel. We had to stay in the lobby on the floor for most of the night. They kept us calm by providing water and snacks. While I realize this was an act of nature, I felt the room should been free of charge since I am a loyal Marriott rewards member and credit card holder. They gave me a 50% discount and I was charged for a bar tab that was not mine (I called to dispute and received a refund). I also felt the hotel was further from the historic district than preferred but it was nice (decor) from little time was spent there.

What a relief to find such a wonderful hotel. We had just come to the city with a bad taste in our mouths about a hotel in nearby Isle of Palms. We need something great to overcome the disppointment. Well the Marriott did the trick! We upgraded to business class so we could have use of the concierge on the top floor. Free breakfast, free snacks, free juice, soda, water, etc.
The rooms were spaciousd and the beds were so plush! We had the most incredible views from our room....The Citadel, the Ashley River, and a minor league baseball field. Attentive staff, gorgeous lobby, beautiful outdoor sitting areas, with rockers, cabana style seating. Pool and hot turb were nice too. I just can't say enough about what a wonderful stay we had at the Marriott.

Stayed at this riverview hotel before it was a Marriot, during renovation, and after completion. Great room. Super check-in. Excellent parking. Wonderful service. Nice part of town (there’s a good laid back seafood restaurant in the public dock area down the street) A short drive to downtown. While it helps to know where the parking garages are downtown, I had no problem finding an on-street space for shopping. A really nice courtyard for getting together and having a drink. Polished but not stuffy.
