Do NOT, under any circumstances, book a room at this hotel. A childhood friend and I planned a joint birthday celebration in Charleston. I booked a room with two queen beds at Priceline. My Priceline receipt clearly states that I purchased a room for two people. Checking into our tiny room on May 29, we got only one bed, with a "full" width mattress. The bathroom had a walk-in shower and no tub. (We stayed at the hotel for two nights, and one of us had to sleep on a roll away bed each night.)
The worst of it was the front-desk clerk's attitude, which can best be summarized as follows, "If you book through Priceline, you get what you deserve." When we asked for a room with two beds, the clerk sarcastically told us to call Priceline. Instead, we stood our ground and wound up an hour later with a room that was only slightly better, although it still had only one bed.
We left a message for hotel manager Jeremy McCauley, who (not surprisingly) never returned our call.
Whether Priceline perpetrated this deception and the hotel merely went along, or whether Priceline acted in good faith and the hotel was completely to blame, I don't know. What I do know is that if this hotel is not willing to honor commitments that Priceline makes, the hotel should not continue its business relationship with Priceline.
We were repeatedly told by hotel staff that the hotel had no access to information from Priceline about what we paid for. This seems like an excellent way to perpetuate deceptive commercial practices: The hotel denies any accountability and blames the whole thing on Priceline, leaving the consumer holding the bag.
My question is, What does Holiday Inn's corporate leadership think of this type of business practice?
