“Priceline Customers Are Treated Poorly”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2010

Do NOT, under any circumstances, book a room at this hotel. A childhood friend and I planned a joint birthday celebration in Charleston. I booked a room with two queen beds at Priceline. My Priceline receipt clearly states that I purchased a room for two people. Checking into our tiny room on May 29, we got only one bed, with a "full" width mattress. The bathroom had a walk-in shower and no tub. (We stayed at the hotel for two nights, and one of us had to sleep on a roll away bed each night.)

The worst of it was the front-desk clerk's attitude, which can best be summarized as follows, "If you book through Priceline, you get what you deserve." When we asked for a room with two beds, the clerk sarcastically told us to call Priceline. Instead, we stood our ground and wound up an hour later with a room that was only slightly better, although it still had only one bed.

We left a message for hotel manager Jeremy McCauley, who (not surprisingly) never returned our call.

Whether Priceline perpetrated this deception and the hotel merely went along, or whether Priceline acted in good faith and the hotel was completely to blame, I don't know. What I do know is that if this hotel is not willing to honor commitments that Priceline makes, the hotel should not continue its business relationship with Priceline.

We were repeatedly told by hotel staff that the hotel had no access to information from Priceline about what we paid for. This seems like an excellent way to perpetuate deceptive commercial practices: The hotel denies any accountability and blames the whole thing on Priceline, leaving the consumer holding the bag.

My question is, What does Holiday Inn's corporate leadership think of this type of business practice?

Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend at the recommendation of a friend. I could not have asked for a better hotel. After looking for hotels in the historic district and finding them way way out of price range, decided to give this hotel a try. As I mentioned, it was recommended by a friend and her daughter who visited in April.
The one thing that makes this hotel a great bargain is one the view and two the shuttle bus that takes you to several locations in the historic district. The front desk will give you a schedule and was on-time (give or take 5 or minutes). What a wonderful treat to not have to fight traffic and parking. Although parking was pretty abundant and cheaper than I thought.
The room was very clean and looked to have been updated recently. The bathroom configuration was a little weird, but all in all, it was a great hotel and one that I will recommend to others.
The front desk personnel and shuttle drivers were all very helpful.

I do not recommend this hotel. It was a bit on the run down side. When we first checked in our room was on the smoking floor and smelled terrible. We asked to switch rooms and the management was very good about it. In our second room, there was a spider problem. My husband killed three giant spiders within a few hours. So, we switched rooms again. The third room was better. Each room has a balcony, but the doors are sealed shut (but the seal is old so noise leaks through). The hotel is old, and it shows. Next time, we will spend the extra money and get a nicer hotel in the historic district.

This hotel was a great buy compared to the other hotels in downtown Charleston. It is right across the 17 bridge and is very convenient to both downtown Charleston and Folly Beach. They have a shuttle that runs every two hours that takes you directly to the heart of downtown. It was on time and easy to use. Also, a taxi is only $7 - $9 if you want to take that route. The rooms are not the cleanest, but it is an old hotel and it is a lot cheaper than the other surrounding hotels (using Priceline). The rugs are a little grungy and the bathroom area is a little older. Overall, if you are looking for a cheaper hotel that is convenient to surrounding areas and gives you a place to lay your head at night...this is it.

Had a great view from the 8th floor. Even if you don't want to go to the restaurant up top go up there at night or day to see the view. The bar area was nice even though I thought the bar prices were a bit overpriced. Room and bed were comfortable. All the staff was very courteous. The lobby was very nice as well. The one thing that can be improved is the parking lot needed to be repaved. The shuttle service to downtown is good, they also give you a map with times and locations.

We came to this Holiday Inn on short notice after being disappointed with another hotel in Charleston. The staff was so helpful with getting us a room on such short notice, and they even gave us a good rate because of all of the trouble we were having finding a place! All of the staff is friendly and courteous. This hotel is quiet and has awesome views! The price is very reasonable and is located fairly close to the historic district! We will definitely make this our hotel when we come to Charleston again!!

After reading several negative reviews and purchase was already complete using priceline... I was disappointed and thought I'd made a very big mistake. We stayed for a week from 4/12/10 to 4/17/10 on the 12th floor with an excellent view of the river/bay area and downtown. Our room was very clean throughout the stay; the king size bed slept wonderfully; no trouble with noisy guests; fitness room adequate and the service was very good. The weather was wonderful and the Charleston food excellent. We highly recommend Virginia's in the market area for great low country cuisine. The hotel location is great for going to either the market area, port or Mt. Pleasant where tours, etc are located. We very much enjoyed the Gulla and Fort Sumpter tours. Only negatives were the air condition sometimes did not get as cold as we like and the food in the roof restaurant was only so so at best. Also, parking is a very big challenge in the market area. The best place to park if you drive is in the vistor center parking deck and walk to your destination. I recommend this hotel for couples trying to get away for rest, relaxation and quality time at reasonable rates.
