I am writing this review as I am at the hotel. This is a very unpleasant place!!! It is located between two very busy and noisy roads, and the patio doors are so old, they do not seal the noise out even though we are on the 11th floor above the roads! I am NOT looking forward to attempting to sleep here this evening :( As I am typing this the maintenance man is in the room's bathroom trying to fix up a leaking toilet which we had not even used yet!! This hotel is in great need of refurbishing and needing new windows....until this is done, I advise you to look elsewhere!!!

The front desk staff was very pleasant upon check-in. They asked us how our drive had been. The room was nothing spectacular, but clean and spacious. The view from our 7th floor balcony was great, over-looking the Ashley River and downtown in the background. My main selling point was its proximity to downtown. It was a really short drive to the historic district without having to deal with the expense of the hotels there. There was plenty of free parking also.

My experience at this place was rather unpleasant. The front desk service people were not friendly. All they cared were your credit card number. The room looks not neat and facilities are old. Internet wireless signal -----, even in the lobby.
Won't come back again.

This hotel has an authentic "shabby chic" charm that I absolutely loved and will most certainly stay there again. If you expect everything to be perfect and look like it was built within the past year, you should probably drive on across the bridge into Mount Pleasant. But if you can appreciate the vintage charm and don't mind cosmetic blemishes, stay here. Access to Highway 17 is excellent in both directions, so it makes a great "base of operations" if you want to, for example, see The Hunley one day, go to Fort Sumter one day, and go fishing on the Folley Beach pier on yet another day.

With the freebies and discounts, the top floor restaurant is a bargain and includes a fantastic view of Charleston. Go there in the evening, just before the sun goes down, so you can watch the city lights come alive. In fact, you can stay AND eat there for less per night than most Charleston hotels charge just for a room.

The layout inside the hotel is interesting because of the building's cylindrical shape. The rooms have small viewing decks (too small to be called a porch), which are really cool if your room is on the Charleston side. I didn't stay out there for long -- heights like that give me the creeps.

Hey, they also have wireless internet access -- a real bonus!

Stayed at the hotel on July 21 st and 22nd.

Pros - Excellent location with easy access to major highways. Swimming pool, seperate vanity outside of shower area.

Cons - Room decor dated, food not very good, vents in bathroom don't work, staff promise things, don't deliver.

When we arrived, I asked for a refrigerator for the room. I was told there was none available. Both nights there, a refrigerator sat out in the hallway several doors away. I asked for an additional ice bucket. Front desk said no problem. It never arrived. Both nights at the pool I had to call for towels.

Overall just an average place. Keep your expectations in check, and you will find this a friendly place.

The view was fabulous! The room was a bit dated with areas of peeling wallpaper but other than that, I thought the room was great. We got a King with a roll away for our 12 year old and the roll away was more comfortable than any roll away we have used. Our bed was very comfortable. We went to the restaurant for the breakfast buffet. The food was great and being at the top with windows completely surrounding, the view was incredible. My son got to eat the buffet free; ours was $7.25 a person which I think is very reasonable for breakfast buffet with a variety of food. Service was great!

We will definitely return!
