“Good place to stay and convenient to Historic Charleston and MUSC”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

We had to come to Charleston for 3 days and didn't want to spend a lot of money for a hotel, as we were not in for tourism, but for evaluations & meetings at MUSC. There are one or 2 closer hotels to that area, but La Quinta was actually the fastest trip, because after you get on the bridge, about 1/2 mi. from the hotel, you are in the MUSC complex in 3-5 minutes.

Mary at the hotel desk was extremely helpful and told us to call ahead to the hotel next trip to get the room and services we need. She couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.

The rooms are neat, clean and our room had 2 double beds, Marina view, and a desk sitting area so we could use the laptop and hook up to their free wifi. The desk had a work lamp with an outlet in its base for charging phones, etc., but the desk had a plate on the front with three more outlets for charging or hooking up the computer or other electronic items, and there's even an ethernet port as well.

The beds had "Bright Side" pillowtop mattresses which were comfortable. This is important to me, because I like a softer bed, and my wife's fine with a firmer bed. Some hotels beds are almost impossible for me to get a decent night's sleep, but I slept well in mine.

Since we were out early each morning, we really appreciated the "Bright Side Breakfast" in the area just off the lobby. We enjoyed cereal, hot or cold, juices, yogurts, donuts and there are two waffle makers and you can make your own as you like it.

If you are in town for touring, the LaQuinta has a shuttle to the historic area, so you can leave your vehicle in the parking lot. There are a number of cafes, restaurants, etc. within two miles of the LaQuinta, and they range from inexpensive to better quality, AND you can stay on this side of the Ashley River and stay out of downtown traffic if you so desire.

If you're planning a trip to Charleston and don't need a 4-star or 5-star accommodations, call the La Quinta and look into their hotel. It's just a few hundred yds. from the highway, so it's quiet at night for a good night's sleep.

Hope this helps you

This is a wonderful hotel. Mary, at the front desk, spent a lot of time on the phone with me when I got lost. She was so gracious. Have never been anywhere with a finer front desk staff. The view of the boats on the pier is beautiful. Love this hotel. Makes travel since my husband passed away much easier.

Booked room through priceline. Price as $119/night. After "fees" and taxes total cost was $146.81. Not a bad hotel but carpets were dirty and no towels in swimming area. The worst was the dogs barking for hours on end! Desk tried to locate owners but nowhere to be found. We had to listen to yapping for over 5 hours then kids jumping on the beds above us all night long. If you don't want to get a good nights rest, stay here.

Great hotel. Near downtown and most attractions. Only down side was there wasn't a large area big enough for our dogs to use the bathroom or walk around. Had a decent breakfast each morning. Rooms were nice and clean.

The location is the best part of this hotel. Easy access to the city and the beaches. The best part ends there.
Some of the staff was very friendly and some could care less about you. The rooms are fine, the beds need replacing big time! The TV service is god awful! The flat screen is fine but what u r watching and what the info shows is never in sync!
I was floored by the fact that they do not have a small fridge or a microwave in the room. More than enough room to put one. Again this hotel is all about the cheap.
Breakfast is not so hot!! Everything is on the cheap!! Walmart quality ?? Coffee not worth drinking if you're a coffee drinker. For the price the location can make up these short comings. Other wise there are much better hotels for the same price.

Room Tip: Exec suites have the fridge and microwaves only!! Try and get a room on the marina side, not the hi...
