I was looking for an affordable hotel that was dog-friendly for one night that was convenient to downtown and to Mt. Pleasant. We stayed in a king-size marina view room for $90. It was definitely a good buy. If you are looking for The Ritz, you will be greatly disappointed. This is a value hotel, and you will see some outdated furnishings and fixtures. The common areas could use some vacuuming. But the room was clean, we had a nice view, and there was NO extra charge for the dogs. It's less than a 10 minute drive to downtown Charleston, so if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for a room there, this is perfect. We will come back again. Oh, and we had dinner at California Dreaming, which is a parking lot away, and had great food, with waterfront dining.

Room Tip: It's worth the few extra dollars for the marina view.

Our stay at this property convinced us to use La Quinta's when traveling cross country. They are extremely pet-friendly (we have a Golden Retriever) and their accommodations are excellent considering the price. The room was updated, clean and comfortable. The people at the front desk were very helpful in directing us around Charleston. The breakfast buffet was fully stocked and the food was hot. While not an epicurean delight, the food was fresh and plentiful and was a nice way to start the day. The water-front location aded to the property's ambiance.

Room Tip: Ask for a water-front room.

I have stayed here several times, mostly because it is pet friendly. Great location on the water in Charleston. 10 minutes or less to Downtown, Mount Pleasant, James Island, Folly beach (ok, maybe 15 minutes with no traffic). Price is ok for what you get. Cleanliness is usually acceptable but never much more. 4th of July weekend, 2013 the maid service seemed below par even for this place. (When I checked in on July 3, there was a towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door from the previous occupant and quite a few hairs in the shower even though the receptionist went and checked the room before giving me the key. It was obvious that things had been cleaned (except the back of the door). unfortunately, it was also obvious that it was done haphazardly. I find the quality of maid service seems to have declined quite a bit over the past few years throughout the hotel industry regardless of the "star" rating of the hotel so this poor showing didn't seem all that terrible. If you have pets and want to be near Historic Charleston this is a good place to stay.

A basic room - comfortable and clean. However, there was a big ol' palmetto bug in our 1st floor room! I have written to them and let them know that they'll need to have pest control come out. A good breakfast and super convenient to downtown Charleston.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the harbor, stay on the 3rd or 4th floor.

love hotel. love the people. love charleston. had a great vacation and will return to la quinta next summer. Staff was friendly, food great, pool was taken care of. only bad was that the bathroom floor felt gritty, clean but hadnt been moped in a while.

My family and I stayed in 3 rooms for 1 week in April at this lovely facility and were very pleased with the accommodations and the rates. The rooms were clean, large and tastefully decorated, and the beds very comfortable. The included breakfast had a nice selection of items and the location was ideal. There was a shuttle bus to the historic area of Charleston for a small fee and easy access by car to outlying areas of interest. For dinner we found the Blue Rose restaurant close by to be nice and also recommend this. We would recommend this hotel to others who would appreciate a great hotel at a great rate.
