I stayed here 2 nights on a business trip and really liked it. The hotel itself is really pretty and has a lot of charm. There were a ton of pros about this hotel... very friendly staff, free wine and beer during happy hour, free continental breakfast, close to downtown, huge rooms.. My only complaint was that breakfast ended at 9:30 and I'm not a morning person LOL but other than that it was a really nice hotel! I would definitely stay there again! I can't comment on the value because we paid the government rate so I don't know how much a room usually goes for, but I thought it was really nice.

We have stayed at this property numerous times during what is turning into an annual Charleston vacation. This hotel is in what used to be the Citadel. So it has amazing charm and character which is only one of the reasons for our choosing this property. The other is its location in the historic district of Charleston. We love walking out of our hotel into the old city, walking to great restaurants, walking out the door to the Saturday Farmer's Market, the great breakfast (for a hotel) each day and the nightly complementary happy hour.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Historic Downtown Charleston this property should be on your list.

This hotel was in an amazing location (close to everything), and was a beautiful historic building. OUr room was large and comfortable overlooking the park next door. We really enjoyed the evening cocktail reception and breakfast was fantastic (eating outside during nice weather was so pleasant). We stayed over a long Memorial Day weekend and it was during the Citadel graduation, the College of Charleston graduation and Spoleto Arts Festival so there were a LOT of people in Charleston, but we didn't have any trouble finding a place for dinner or drinks. Cose enough to walk everyone in town. If you want to go to Partiots Point - the Yorktown or Ft. Sumpter tour, you will have to drive but other than that a perfect location!

We stayed one night at this hotel on our way to spend a week at Isle of Palms. The property was very pretty and impressive, particularly the lobby area and common areas on the main floor. The rooms are large and perfect for a family with children. My kids loved having their own TV in the living room and sleeping on the pull-out sofa, even though there was an extra bed for them to use in our bedroom. As this is an old property, things weren't in perfect condition. As expected, there was some wear and tear in the rooms but everything was very clean and comfortable.

We were disappointed to have missed the complimentary cocktail hour by minutes. We checked in while it was going on and we could see a large crowd gathered around the bar. The complimentary breakfast the following morning was a bonus. I expected only cold/continental options so it was a treat to have a full hot buffet offered. It was a bigger bonus that it was located right outside our room which was conveniently located on the first floor (as I had requested). We brought our breakfast inside the room and ate in privacy at our dining table.

Parking is a little tricky as you have to park in the adjacent parking garage ($14/day). It means you need to drop off suit cases at the hotel but then park your car so you can avoid lugging the items from the garage. It is understandable as this is a city hotel with limited space.

That night we walked to the center of Charleston which was about a 10 minute walk. We had dinner and walked through a part of City Market that was open late. For our return home that night, we opted to take the bicycle taxis recommended by the door man at the hotel. We called the number he gave us from our restaurant and they were there to pick us up in 3-5 minutes. It was a great ride and at $9 per ride, a real treat. Our kids loved it.

We were there on a Friday so we were very pleasantly surprised to wake up to find a large farmer's market/art fair going on just outside our bedroom in the large park next door that Saturday morning. This was the perfect way to spend our morning before heading to see the rest of Charleston that afternoon. We purchased local produce to take back to our beach rental and bought some locally made souveniers to bring home.

Overall a wonderful stay in a very unique and conveniently located property in Charleston. Would definitely stay there again.

When traveling with our children, we always look for Embassy Suites because of their free breakfast and evening reception. Although we appreciated the complimentary meals, we had difficulty finding a table at breakfast. The food at the evening reception was average, but the free drinks were much appreciated. The valets and front desk staff were very welcoming. Although the pool was small, it was not very crowded. Rooms were adequate, but a bit dated.

The hotel sits right on a park, which was nice. Having young children, we had to drive to the market because it was too far of a walk.

We go to Charleston at least once a year, and will most likely stay here again.

Room Tip: We have three young children and had a two bedroom suite. It was nice to have our own spaces.

This was our second time staying at the Embassy Suites. We like the location since it was within walking distance of many of the attractions of historic Charleston. The hotel lobby was beautifully decorated. The complimentary breakfast offers a nice selection of the usual breakfast foods. The manager's nightly reception is just okay. Free drinks with munchies consisting of carrots, dip, pretzels and maybe rib tips? Nice gesture, but it could be improved. Our room was on the first floor (again) but this time right in the corner next to housekeeping. At times we would hear the door slamming. Plenty of hot water for your shower, although it came from both the faucet and overhead sprayer. Room was comfy and clean. All staff was courteous and friendly.
