“Perfect romantic getaway”
Reviewed September 27, 2011

We had a very nice getaway weekend. We had an "upper Queen" room, Number 8. Simply but very nicely appointed. It was just as described. We loved the steam shower! Each morning we had breakfast in quiet and lush garden, although you might want to take breakfast in room if it rained hard the night before. They had cookies out every afternoon, followed by wine and cheese in the evening. Breakfast was simple continental breakfast with good coffee--always a plus.

Room Tip: Room 8 was an upstairs corner room. Very quiet.

No, you aren't staying in the big house in the photos, you are staying in the converted carriage house, hence the name. But if it is location you want, this is the place to stay, and the location is what you are paying for.
We have stayed in two different rooms here, both under the porch and both exactly as described by the innkeepers. One had a small sitting area that used to be the cistern, with the bedroom having been the old wine cellar. There were no windows in this room except the french doors through which you enter the room. The other room which was the former kitchen area of the house had no sitting room but did have a window and the french doors. There is a large outdoor sitting area right outside of these rooms and under the porch of the main house, with wicker chairs and tables. No direct sun in here which kept the rooms relatively cool.
Breakfast here was simple and what we fix at home....juice, coffee, cereal and yogurt. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
If it is new, sumptuous decor and pampered service you are after, stay at the Charleston Place or somewhere like it. If on the other hand you want to stay in a really unique place on the battery, then look no further.

If you travel a lot then you know that it is not just the destination, but it’s your accommodations that make your trip a prized memory or one that you can't wait to forget. If you are looking for a B & B that embodies the charm, southern hospitality, attention to detail, and will make you feel like you are the most important person in town, then this ones for you. The Battery Carriage House Inn exemplifies what the great City of Charleston has come to be known for. Give this B & B a try...you won't be disappointed..

Room Tip: Ask for room #8 in the carriage house. It has the best view and its location makes you feel like yo...

I would definately recommend the inn to anyone going to Charleston. This was our second time staying here and we loved the steam shower in room 10. Miranda stayed in Room 3 and I loved the decor. The staff were so helpful making recommendations on where to stay and even booking spa services when we decided where we wanted to go. Breakfast in the garden was wonderful as always. Yes, you do mark on a card what you want. We let them know we like lots of coffee and cream and were well taken care of. The wine and cheese in the main area were very nice. I love walking around the area.

This was a wonderful place to stay for my birthday. It was my first trip to Charleston and the location of the B&B is great. White Point Gardens is across the street and you're ablel to walk to most anywhere. Parking could be tricky but I never had trouble. I loved having a silver tray brought to my room each morning where I enjoyed a very large, warm croissant with hot tea, yogurt and orange juice. Breakfasts at inns in Europe were not this nice. My room was very charming. It was always cool and immaculately cleaned. You can enjoy iced tea and cookies in the afternoon or a glass of wine in the evening. The turn down your bed and place a chocolate on your pillow. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Gena and Krystal gave great recommendations for local restaurants. Krystal even called to wish me a happy birthday. It was like I had visited Europe without the long flight. I can't wait to come back!

Some of the front desk people were friendly others not .. the breakfast was a choice of yogart, bagel and cereral. Very quite not much going on. Not your typical B&B. Hotel would have been less with better rooms.

Gee--what a great spot! You will not find a better location in Charleston. Nestled in the residential area of the Battery, you feel what it must have been like to be a Charlestonian at the turn of the century. The brick carriageway leads the way to a cozy room in the carriage house. We felt so welcome--and a bottle of champagne waiting in our room in celebration of our 15th anniversary certainly helped! What a nice way to start our romantic interlude...The staff guided us to fun attractions and fabulous restaurants. We loved Hank's restaurant--amazing seafood! We decided on our way home that we would make this our anniversary get-a-way from now on.
