“Charleston Gem”

Our family of three fell in love with the grace and beauty of Charleston and our home away from home at 21East Battery. Julie, the innkeeper, was there to welcome us when we arrived and left a delicious variety of healthy breakfast options for us to enjoy the each morning. Her warm, friendly style made our stay even more special The location is peaceful and abounds with serene elegance while being within walking distance to great restaurants and historical attractions. The bedrooms are light and sunny and handsomely furnished. I agree with one of the reviews who said that this place is a slice of historical heaven. We will certainly return.

Room Tip: The staircase to the second floor bedrooms in the "Quarters" is quite steep.

We have visited Charleston, S.C. over 20 years and just discovered this property to spend our 20th anniversary; it was so incredible! We had it all to ourselves; it felt like we were staying in our own home. The best part was the bonuses of home cooked breakfast waiting in our refrigerator and delicious treats for late night snacking. We booked it to return in February to enjoy the gas fireplaces and enjoy the properties and sights all around the Battery again. We also enjoyed the tour of the Edmondston-Alston house adjacent to this bed and breakfast.

We were very pleased (to say the least!) with our stay at 21 East Battery for four nights in September during a 20th anniversary trip to the Low Country. Julie contacted us as we were driving in from Savannah to confirm our arrival time and to assure us that everything was ready whenever we arrived. We were immediately put at ease in a city we had never travelled to, as Julie was on site to greet us warmly upon our arrival and set the stage for what would be four great days and nights on the high battery in Charleston.

We did not feel the descripton of the Carriage House does the property justice; the private, historic, lodging located in one of Charleston's best neighborhoods was amazing. Each night when we returned to the Carriage House from our days' adventures, we felt delighted and secure to be staying on the grounds of such a wonderful home so steeped in American history.

The breakfasts that Julie prepared, and delivered while we were out, were consistently wonderful, just the right amount of freshly prepared warm dishes along with fruits, juices and other yummy treats.

Julie also helped us immensely with directions to local shops, galleries, eateries, plantations and more. We left feeling that we had found a truely special place, and know that we will return again one day. Book the Carriage House, we feel you will enjoy every minute of the experience as we did.

Room Tip: The Carriage House is private, historic, and very spacious for a couple. The baby grand is a really...

Julie called us as we were driving to Charleston to arrange for our arrival. Since we were very late, Julie had the room prepared. A very unique, one of a kind experience. We have stayed in many B&B's across the US and consider 21 East Battery one of the best. Not a typical B&B as the rooms are mini apartments. The old world charm and quiet atmosphere were ideal for our stay but close enough to walk to any Charleston activity.
We loved it.

We stayed at the Carriage House recently. I can't say enough good things about the house itself and the accomodations. The location was perfect, close enough to the sights but enough away to be peaceful at night. Everything in the house was spotless and the amenities it offered right down to the antique decor, the baby grand piano, and even the books was nothing short of fabulous.

Compared to other high end bed and breakfasts though, we felt though the food was just adequate or somewhat lacking. The breakfast quiches were very good, but limited, as if you didn't like what was in it that day i.e spinach, you were out of luck for breakfast. Also there was not much provided to go with it, for example nothing to toast for a side. The banana bread was excellent as were the afternoon cookies. Fruit salad would have been nice as an alternative to the bananas. There was also cereal and yougurt. It was all good, but in comparison for the price not really enough.

Overall though we loved the accomodation, the East Battery area, and fell in love with Charleston on the whole. 2 days was not really enough!

We celebrated David's 44th birthday at 21 East Battery. We were very impressed with our accomodations. There is no better area to stay if you want a really nice place close to history. The mansion is unbelievable and the staff is very knowledgeable. Julie was an excellent host and her quiche was great. The location is within walking distance to everything historic. We recommend the pub tour and the ghost tour.

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with Julie in The Quarters and we couldn't have been better taken care of. We had a wonderful time in Charleston. The restaurants are superb and the attractions and history of the area are marvelous. We recommend this property to anyone who wants to have a wonderful experience in Charleston. The location of this property is perfect. We are coming back as soon as possible.
