“Spacious, quiet B&B”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

My mom, sister, and I stayed at the B&B during March, 2014. We were in the front garden room, very spacious and quiet. Never heard our neighbors. Breakfast was tasty but simple which we preferred since the dining is superb in Charleston. The owner is very friendly and made effort to make sure we were comfortable and knew which sites to visit. The off-street parking is great though it's pretty narrow to back out of. We hope to come again!

We stayed at Lavender and Lace during Easter week last year. A great location in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood. The first time we've stayed "south of Broad" in Charleston. An easy walk to all the historic sights in old Charleston. We had a spacious and comfortable suite. Breakfast goodies appeared as if by magic in our kitchen, along with other treats. Wonder innkeeper. I recommend this B&B highly.

Room Tip: We had the room at the front, but I'm sure they are all nice.

We loved staying at Lavender and Lace, it was about 15 minutes walk into the centre of Charleston, in a lovely quiet area. There are bikes that you can use to cycle round Charleston on, which is a great way of spending a morning. The accommodation was far bigger than we expected, it had a sitting room, dining area, comfy bed, kitchen with washer and dryer which is great for when you are travelling. I would recommend Lavender and Lace to anyone.

Charleston and Lavender and Lace was the first stop for my wife and I on our recent trip to the US from Australia.

Located in a beautiful and quiet part of town, L&L was in easy walking distance of most attractions and was definitely great value compared to some of the other B&B's in Charleston.

We stayed in the Back Garden Room which was perfect for our stay. The room was particularly spacious and the breakfast provided in the room was more than ample.

Would definitely stay here again. Thanks Judy!

For our recent mini-vacation in Charleston, my wife and I wanted to stay in a B&B. We first looked at the ones on the Battery which overlook the water. They were rather high priced, many of the accomodations being in the $300 to $500 a night range, and even at those prices had some mixed reviews. I cast the net a little wider and found Lavender and Lace which is just a couple of blocks off the water, smack in the middle of the historic SOB (South of Broad) area of Charleston.

Our accommodation in the Front Garden Room was amazing. It was really a full-sized apartment, fully furnished, and very attractively decorated. I hadn't realized from the website quite how large it was! It had a large bedroom with private bath, a large living room with cable TV, a small, but full kitchen including a microwave oven, and a small table for dining. I'm not sure one could find such a lovely place to call home for a vacation elsewhere nearby, but if you could, the price would likely be much more than the $196 a night we paid (including taxes). It was also very, very quiet. I don't recall any intrusive noise at all.

Here is a link to the website for this B&B: http://lavenderandlacebb.com/

Breakfast is provided, but not in a dining room. Each day, Judy Brown, your hostess, leaves a variety of muffins, fruit, small bagels, yogurt, biscuits, banana bread, cookies, brownies, quiches, etc. She also leaves milk, orange juice, and hot chocolate or cider mixes, as well as butter, cream cheese, jellies, jams, and compotes. There is coffee and a coffee maker and several types of tea. There are plenty of plates, glasses, cutlery, etc. We could never get close to eating all the breakfast items Judy provided, and typically ate at restaurants at mid-day, then snacked on leftover breakfast items in the evening.

Judy met us when we arrived from the airport and spent a good bit of time showing us where things were on the maps she provided and giving her recommendations about the things to do and see and the places to eat. She was an engaging and interesting person to talk with. The one time we had a question she answered her phone immediately.

Judy also has bicycles for complimentary use by her guest and I think this would be an excellent area for bicycling. We didn't take advantage of the bicycles as we had intended to do because my wife was having problems with a shoulder and she preferred to walk.

This is an extraordinarily large and fine accomodation, priced lower than most smaller accommodations in the area, and located in the center of this very historic area of Charleston. If we return to Charleston, we will definitely try to book here again.

My sister and I celebrated with our mom her 65th birthday in Charleston over a long weekend.

L&L was the perfect fit for the 3 of us. Many B&Bs are suited for couples only, and it gets pricey to tack on a second or third room. We looked at house rentals too, but those were better suited for large groups over an extended stay. The Front Garden Suite is roomy, with 2 pull out beds. The living room, bedroom and kitchen offer plenty of space to spread out, and it is a charming place to be.

Tradd Street is within walking distance to many fine restaurants, historic homes and the waterfront. We felt safe in this South of Broad area of town, enough so to walk as a group after dark. Don't miss the street life right out the front door in the morning; it is part of the Charleston experience. Many folks out for a jog or walking their dogs will stop to chat with you.

And Judy has an amazing guest book resource compiling entries of shared wisdom; we greatly benefited from this and were able to hone our adventures. She put our minds at ease during the initial trip planning. I hope your visit will be as enjoyable and memorable as ours was.

We stayed at Lavender and Lace in late Oct./early Nov. 2011 for 3 nites and we're still raving about what a great place it is! We stayed in the Front Garden Suite. The large bedroom and large living room were great for accomodating all of our luggage for a 5 week road trip. Decor was lovely, as was the garden and the hostess. Breakfast, fresh fruit, and cookies were plentiful for folks like us who want to eat and run to get to see Charleston. Extremely quiet street, and suite was also quiet--we never heard other guests. Stackable washer & dryer made it possible to wash a load in the a.m. and dry it when we got home. That was a nice little extra. The biggest plus was the hostess, Judy. She recommended that before we went to see anything else, we first take a walking tour of Charleston. SUPER suggestion!! Being that we were right IN the historic district of Charleston--South Of Broad--we could walk right to the walking tour. Taking the tour helped us decide which homes we wanted to return to for a tour in the afternoon. Judy suggested Fast and French for lunch and it was great. She told us about good restaurants and had a book of information on eating establishments when we arrived. She also warned us about a place to avoid due to low quality seafood and some restaurant guests who had become ill from it. That's a good thing to know, too. Judy showed us on a map of the city which free trolleys to take to get to Fort Sumter. She loves Charleston and is a wealth of information. Her B&B is lovely and she made Charleston a wonderful place for us to visit with all of her help! (addition from husband: most of the time a stay at a B&B means a very nice room with a bath, with breakfast in a common area of the house. At L&L, our 'room' was really an apartment, with a large bedroom, bathroom, front room, and kitchen with dining nook, making it a great deal for the money)
