Lavender and Lace Bed and Breakfast

We are certainly glad we didn't read "Never to Return" before staying at this B&B or we would have missed a real gem! Charleston is one of our favorite cities and we visit there often. Lavender and Lace is in a great location and Judy was all that one could wish for in a in a B&B hostess. She was very informative about where to eat, what to see and do and where not to go. We really enjoyed the several resturants she recommened, High Cotten being our favorite. She was always making sure we were having a good time and asking if there was anything else we needed.

Lavender and Lace is advertized as serving a continental breakfast, so we expected the usual, coffee, cereal, and a muffin. We were pleasantly surprised to find all kinds of fresh baked goodies, fruits, bagels, and the best brownies in town.

We have always enjoyed walking the streets and enjoying the beautiful homes, but this trip we were able to use the bikes that were provided, so we saw twice as much.

As for the odor of cats???? My wife is allergic to cats and had no problems at all! This B&B was spotless inside and out.

We have already booked another room for the spring of 2008!

If you are allergic to cats do not stay at this Inn. I inquired about the presence of cats and the Inn keeper assured me that there had never been a cat in the area where we were staying. However once we arrived there was a distinct odor (rather, a stench) of cats outside which permeated the guest house(living room, bedroom, bath) where we stayed. Because of my allergy I could not stay in the living room area; the bed room was just tolerable. The Inn keeper was some what friendly , but clear that it was a busy time for her. It was the week before Christmas. Her general rushed demenor was not at all welcoming , and we ended up feeling like we should keep out of her way.
She did leave some lovely baked goods each day and fresh fruit. However, the yogurt was a cheap grocery store brand . Idid leave her a note about our experience and she called very apologetic and offered to not cash our check. I was a bit stunned about the ease at which she was willing to return our money, which led me to believe that she was not honest about the cat situation. I would not recommend a stay at this Inn, especially if you are allergic to cats and are traveling at a holiday time.
