Having the words "Charleston Downtown" in the title are a little misleading because this hotel is on the outskirts of downtown. Not within walking distance of any of the historical homes/museums/shops downtown. However, there is a downtown trolley stop by the hotel. If you have a car, being on the outskirts of downtown is not a problem, as it takes about ten minutes to drive into downtown. It's about a 20 minute drive from the hotel to the plantations.
The facility was clean. Breakfast was adequate with many choices; the same fare Holiday Inn Express usually has wherever you go. Would have been nice if the outdoor pool was heated; too cold to swim in it in April.
I got a reasonable rate on Hotwire which made this a good choice.
