I was pleasantly surprised that a new steak house had opened right off King Street and I did not know about it. A friend came into town for a business meeting and suggested we try it, which we did and it was great. We met initially in the bar located next door, owned by the same group and the bar was very nice, roomy and a great location for a before dinner drink. I liked the bar which had a great casual seating, a nice long bar with plenty of room for cocktails. The concept is very nice in that the bar is located between two of the owners new restaurants, where the clients can enjoy a beverage while waiting to be seated. The restaurant is very nice, well appointed, with excellent service. Our waiter knew his stuff and took excellent care of us through out the meal, which consisted of steaks served to our delight, with family style side dishes to be shared among us. The selection of wines was also excellent and we enjoyed several during the meal. I will return to take my wife as she was most impressed by my descriptions.

We had a great meal last night at Michael's On The Alley. Our party of four was promptly seated, and had outstanding service throughout our meal. Our server, Walt, could not have been better. The restaurant is beautiful with old world charm, and the atmosphere was delightful. The rib eye steaks were delicious and the sides perfection. We will definitely return.

Probably the finest restaurant in Charleston. No trip to Charleston would be complete without a trip to Michael's on the Alley. There is absolutely no other restaurant in town or surrounding area to get a Steak or Prime rib. The service is impeccable, and the Chef always has something new and amazing for you to try, DESSERTS! AMAZING... de-constructed Carrot Cake.....REALLY. Don't waste your time or $$$ anywhere else.

We have been long time fans of 39 Rue de Jean and Virginias on King, owned by Holy City. We watched the renovations on the alley as Michaels, Victors and Vincent Chiccos were being set up. We have really enjoyed Vincent Chiccos several times. We had guests from out of town this week and booked at Michaels with great expectations. Despite the fact that there were only two other diners while we were there, the service was uninspired and slow. The faint whiff of cigarette smoke brought our attention to staff smoking just outside the front door, which did not comport with the atmosphere that the restaurant seeks to create. Two in our party had prime rib and, when it finally arrived, both were astonished at the toughness and fattiness of the meat. For the price, and in fact for any price, the steak was very disappointing. We also thought that the price points for some items on the menu were way too high. While we will continue returning to 39 Rue de Jean, Virginias and Vincent Chiccos, we can't risk further embarrassment by bringing guests back to Michaels, sadly. That being said, the renovations and decor are really great.

I don't consider myself a Charleston food snob but living in Charleston there are some great places to eat. I was a little skeptical coming here because I hadn't heard much about it and it was easy to get a reservation for 4 on a Saturday night (of bridge run weekend). Well now I know why. For the price point of the food I was very underwhelmed. We started with the Caviar, Oysters Roc and the foie gras. Everything was presented nicely but there was barely any caviar on the plate. It was more of 4 nicely prepared bread sticks with great butter. I will say the oysters roc were to die for. The froi gras was also disappointing. I will say the crabcake was delicious. And Huge. The boys had steak for dinner and said it was fine but nothing special. We were a tough 4 top to deal with as we had been drinking and were having a good time but the server was not that friendly. The environment was cool. Reminded me of Stars but smaller. The server did say they were still in their soft opening phase which was interesting because I still hadn't heard much press. The Victor's social club next door was very cool. Would have almost rather had dinner there with the neat lounge area. Will not be returning until they figure a couple things out. Would much rather spend the same money on a dinner at Hall's or Grill 225 when in search for a steak house.
