“Excellent Introduction to Charleston”
Reviewed March 28, 2009

My husband and I took the early morning tour with Tim as our guide and the carriage pulled by Kevin. Tim is knowledgeable (He's a grad of the university in Charleston with a history degree) and provided interesting information about historical events of the city and architectural styles of the various homes and buildings. We have been to Charleston several times, but this carriage tour was a good introduction to the city for our 3 day stay. The tour, itself, was comprehensive. Our only concern was that we were told to be there promptly at 9:15 for our 9:30 tour. Because of some confusion, the carriage scheduled to take our group did not show. The woman managing the carriages that morning apologized and put us on Tim's carriage - but our tour did not start until 9:45 which meant 30 minutes of standing and waiting on the sidewalk. Although she gave us a discount coupon for half off some eating establishments, a better offer would have been a partial refund of the cost of the tour to offset the inconvenience of waiting so long.

“Real Fun for all the family”
Reviewed January 27, 2009

I also highly recommend taking a carriage tour. Our tour guide was a young smiling man who was only 4 month on the job so he was informative and neither monotonous or boring. We were six, four adults and two kids, it was a bit chilly but we enjoyed every minute. We went on tour area #2 I think and it was mosly the residential area around the downtown.

“Great, knowledgable tour guide!”
Reviewed December 31, 2008

My family and I really enjoyed our tour guide and felt like we got what we paid for (which was $18 a ticket instead of $20 because they honored coupons for other carriage companies).

“Love this tour!”
Reviewed October 13, 2008

If you are visiting Charleston for the first time, you must include a carriage ride in your activities! Our tour guide was great...his name was Kevin and he was very informative and funny. The horses they use are beautiful and a special part of the trip as well. There is something special about touring Charleston by carriage and this company does it right!

“Be an 'Early Bird' with Classic Carriage Tours”
Reviewed August 23, 2008

First of all, I'd highly recommend taking a carriage tour of Charleston - you will learn a lot about the colourful history of the city that otherwise would escape you. It also helps you see what treasures the city offers. Finally, going on a horsedrawn carriage seems so appropriate given the charm and elegance of the surroundings.

Recommending which tour company to use is much harder. The companies don't select the routes, they are randomly allocated by the city. Also, you may get a great guide, or you may not. I don't think one company has a monopoly on good guides. So, again, it will come down to good fortune.

One thing that CC offers that distinguishes it from the rest is a discount for its first tour (9.30 am). We paid $38 for 2 adults and a child. Taking an early tour also helps avoid the midday heat during the summer.

The tour lasted about 75 mins & at the end we were invited into the stables. The guide pointed out that the horses are given regular rest periods during their working fortnight, as well as extended stays in pasture other times of the year. .
