“Great for a novice or experienced kayaker.”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

My wife and I booked a guided tour and a tandem kayak for a Saturday morning on Shem Creek. We have been kayaking a number of times in the past but we are new to the area and preferred a guided kayak tour and without question I am glad we did. Rachel was our guide and she was great. First, her pre-trip instruction on use of the kayaks and paddle technique was the best of any I have participated in. This was especially helpful since we were using cockpit style kayaks instead of the sit-on-top style that I am used to. Second, Rachel was very knowledgeable about the area including the history and the plants and wildlife.
We saw several dolphins while we were paddling in the creek as well as many species of birds. I also like that they keep their groups smaller; there were only four of us on our trip plus our guide. There were originally four more expected but they cancelled, maybe because the weather looked iffy. Some other places take a dozen or more at a time.

Shem Creek is a great place to kayak because there is so much to see and it is a fairly easy paddle.

We're so gad that you enjoyed your Shem Creek adventure with Rachel! It's hard to believe that she's a first year guide, isn't it?

It means a lot to us that you appreciate the pre-tour lesson and smaller group size. We've been leading tours for over 20 years, and we believe both of these things are crucial to an enjoyable tour.

We hope to see you again!

“Kayaking at Shem Creek with Laura great!”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

I took 3 teens (my nieces and son) kayaking with Coastal Expeditions-Charleston at their Shem Creek drop and had a great time. We immediately saw several dolphins playing around us. Once into the open waters, the variety of birds was amazing. We were able to swim along a sand dune and stumble onto a beautiful horseshoe crab! And most of all, our guide Laura was fun, friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the area and wildlife and easily managed when one of our group flipped her kayak in open waters. Laura made the trip even better. Oh, and the manager went above and beyond in accommodating our schedule. Thanks to the whole staff... And the obliging wildlife! ;)

Thanks for sharing that with us! Laura is simply an amazing guide-- easy-going and knowledgeable. We'll make sure that she sees this.

Also, thanks for mentioning the "behind-the-scenes" assistance from the office. They are a big part of making a trip great.

Come back and see us (maybe next time you'll see a manatee or sea turtle!)

“Fantastic kayaking trip!”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

My husband and I, along with our two friends, went on a three hour guided kayak tour. We had a wonderful time! Saw many nesting birds on an island, two manatees and a dolphin. Our guide, Laura, was fabulous! She was knowledgeable, easy to converse with and set a great pace for us. The kayaks were easy to navigate. Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to visit Charleston!

Any trip with Laura is a delight (she's so smart and easy-going!), but seeing two manatees makes it a trip to remember! Thanks for coming out with us, and for taking the time to review our kayak company. We'll make sure that Laura sees this!

“Lots of birds”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

A great trip. The kayaks were easy to handle and it didn't take long to get used to them. The guide was great and we saw many nesting birds on an offshore island. I have never seen so many pelicans together in one place. Well worth our flight over the Atlantic to get here.

Thanks so much for the review! We're glad to hear the the kayaks were easy to manage-- we are very particular about the types of kayaks we have in our livery and we we utilize them as a means to take you to see things you could not enjoy otherwise. Including nesting birds!

Happy to hear your southern U.S. vacation was enhanced by the tour!
