This is a beautiful piece of Charleston history. Wonderful to stroll through and experience the nostalgia of an earlier era. There are many vendors selling food stuffs, crafts, clothing, and art. Prices are fairly high due to the location in a prime tourist area. Good for the traveler who has time constraints and a large shopping budget. The budget conscious should seek out the shopping areas frequented by the locals.

Very large market. Covers about 4/6 blocks. Lots of vendors so varied things to take home. Prices seemed high. Tourist trap.

We have always loved going to the Market but then they "upgraded" it and really seemed to take away some of the character. While its nice to have more restrooms, the center part which is now enclosed and air conditioned, really takes away from the old charm. Also, I've noticed since the upgrade that all vendor prices have gone up, which tells me they must be paying more rent. And some of our favorite "smaller" venders with their true art aren't there anymore. There are still true artisans there, but there are also more commercial, run-of-the-mill venders now as well. And definitely stay away when a cruise ship is due in. It's a crowded nightmare.

The market was disappointing to say the least. As this was our first time in the city, we thought we would check it out. It really is just a tourist trap so I would recommend skipping it and visit the many other great things that Charleston has to offer

We went downtown to the Market, Church Street, and Market Streets and had a wonderful time wandering through all the little shops, seeing the Gullah's make baskets, people watching, and enjoying all the quaintness of Charleston. It was a fun day. Can't wait to come back.
