Wonderful planation to visit. If you have a car, then it's a must do! For taxi ride from downtown Charleston, then it's about $50 ride each way.

The grounds, lakes, and gardens were beautiful. The food was good, but not great.

We had lunch here last weekend after our tour of Middleton Place. They need to do some work on the menu. The iced tea was anemic - nothing more than slightly colored water. My friend had the buffet. I tried a collard and it was bitter. The BBQ tasted ok, but the hoppin'john was dry, and was made with black beans, which is all fine and dandy, but not the bean you are supposed to use for real southern hoppin'john. I had the special - fried green tomato BLT, served with potato salad. The potato salad was awful. The potatos were not fully cooked and, while I know they were trying to do a mustard based potato salad, they failed. The fried green tomatoes were done nicely, and the bacon was fried well, but the sandwich was served on a kaiser roll. And it was stale.
Our server, altho very sweet, was extremely extremely slow.

We each got the buffet and it was $18 a person. The meats were fried chicken and pulled pork. They were so good!! They also had sides such as: collards, cole slaw, sweet potatoes, corn pudding, hoppin John, and cornbread. It was a lot of really tasty food for the price. We liked eating our big meal at 2 pm with times to walk it off. They are open at night As well. I think to eat there at lunch, you have to have paid to enter the grounds already

We have been fortunate to dine here several times. Every experience had been wonderful. The menu is varied & depends upon fresh local foods that are available. Last night we had mussels & arugula salad for appetizers. The catfish stew is a favorite & the steaks are cooked perfectly. However, I had something new - the swordfish. I have to say that it might have been the best entree at any restaurant that I've had. Simply great. This facility has a marvelous ambience, the staff are professional & knowledgable. 5 stars

We had a wonderful lunch on Monday at Middleton Place! I told my husband that it is hard to find TRUE sweetened ice tea with a lemon wedge! Middleton has TRUE SOUTHERN SWEETENED TEA! We had the fried green tomatoes fixed perfect with large salads for all of us! Wonderful atmosphere & great place to dine!!!
