My husband and I ate at 39 Rue on our first night in Charleston and had a terrific meal. We truly loved the atmosphere and our server was extremely nice. Would recommend this restaurant as a must while visiting Charleston!

“Better sushi than french food”
Reviewed March 23, 2014 via mobile

My friend and I were looking for a restaurant for lunch. When entering the restaurant we were pleasantly surprised and eager to try their food.

The menu is a mix of French and sushi (odd). Being a french restaurant I thought I would stick with French foods. My friend ventured out by getting the sushi rolls and escargot.

My quiche was a disappointment. It really tasted like day old quiche that was microwaved. It was spongy (yuk! ) and had a dark brown spongy top. My friends escargot was soaked in butter and had no seasoning (heart attack on a plate). The real surprise were the sushi rolls. They were delicious and presented well.

Cute place but the food was less than desireable. Best to go somewhere else.

“great food & value combo”

We went there for lunch, and its Daily Special were great values
for a lot of delicious food.
Very handsome setting (dark wood, zinc bar), and friendly service.

“Great If You Don't Mind Hearing Loss Or Have Earplugs”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

This place has much to recommend it. The food is good, and the service is fine. They have, in turn, done a nice job of replicating a good French bistro. But it is so loud that it really undermines the whole experience. My wife, daughter, mother and I went there on a Saturday night. Fortunately, we had reservations, as it is appeared the waits were very long. The noise, however, was almost unbearable. We literally could not hear each other once we sat down to eat. There were so many people at the bar and the acoustics are so bad that it is just deafening. It's hard for me to imagine that other diners don't notice this, but for us, it will likely preclude a return trip. Bring earplugs if you go. You will need them.

“Felt like Paris eating lunch al fresco!”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

We love Paris and this restaurant brought back great memories. We ate outside and had mussels. I ordered the cauliflower sauce and my husband had the traditional French sauce. Very good, but mine was better! Enjoyed with a glass of white Burgundy topped my lunch off to perfection.
