We were staying at the Hampton Inn which is about 1/2 block from this restaurant. We stopped in on a very busy Saturday night. We had literally just gotten off the plane, and I felt seriously under dressed. Many were in suits and the women for the most part were wearing dresses. We were not dressed up- wearing jeans and sweaters, but we were still welcomed with open arms. Our over-all impression here was the place was packed and very loud. Making it difficult to hold a conversation. Ambiance aside, the food was good. I had the potato truffle soup which was excellent. Hubby had a special that evening which was also good, different then anything he had ever had. For dinner I had the scallops st. Jacques which was scallops (which were done perfectly) but then had cheese melted all over the top. The taste was good but much too heavy for me. Hubby had the duck which was actually better than I expected (I rarely like duck) and this version was excellent. We split the pouched pear for dessert and we both really enjoyed it. The food was all done very well, no complaints at all. I will say we both found it very odd that they served sushi with traditional(ish) French- these two things don't generally go together. But it seemed that many people were there for the sushi.

We had never been to Charleston before, so we took this recommendation from the hotel concierge. She made a reservation for us. The restaurant is busy enough that it's worth calling ahead for a reservation, even if you're going to arrive there in 15 minutes. We liked the décor, it reminded us of a French bistro, which is probably the intent here because the food is French bistro style. We had a great waiter, which really set the scene for us. He was funny and helpful and had plenty of opinions about the menu items. My husband and I both ordered the steak frites because it just seemed like the right kind of dinner to have there, and our steaks were cooked as we ordered them. The wine selection was good, and we were happy with our choice. We came late enough in the evening that other people were finishing dinner and leaving so the restaurant wasn't too crowded, but I think when the restaurant is full it can be noisy and quite crowded at the small tables that are close together. We were seated at one of those small tables so I'm glad we didn't have to deal with noise and crowding. We had a very good experience and a very good dinner at this restaurant.

Made reservations, which they called back to confirm. When we arrived at our reservation given date and time, not only they could not find it, they never apologize, hostesses looked and acted as if we were bothering them with our presence. It was the most unwelcoming feeling we have ever experienced at an establishment of this caliber. The place has no character, overall very steril, no charm what so ever. We were finally seated, by the toilets, there was a big spider rooming around the area. The waitress came to take our drink order, we were not ready, which made her upset to the point of eye rolling.... I could go on and on. We asked for the manager to come and talk to us, the manager never showed up, we left and no one cared. Do yourselves a huge favor, don't go to this place, specially when there are so many other wonderful places to go to in this city
