The food is really great. We ordered a lot of vegetarian versions of the dishes and were not disappointed. The chicken massaman curry was great. Our server was very attentive and always smiling [forgot his name :-(]. We were 6 adults and 3 kids during the peak hour. The server showed lot of patience with us. So a big thank you to him.

There were couple of other restaurant staff members who can use a smile :-). No real complaints, it was peak hour and our kids were a little too excited. So understandable. But other than that, we had a great start to our vacation because of Basil!

We had a really enjoyable dinner at Basil. Because the restaurant does not take reservations, we made a point of arriving early. To our surprise, our arrival at 5:30 allowed us to take advantage of happy hour prices (5 to 7pm) for our drinks and appetizers.

The three of us started with Basil Rolls, Steamed Dumplings, and Nam Sod (similar to lettuce wraps). I could not pick my favorite among the appetizers. They were all different but equally delicious. We then had the Basil Duck, Pad See-Eu, and Shrimp Fried Rice. Pad See-Eu, a family favorite, is always a "must" when we are ordering Thai food. At our waitress' suggestion, we ordered the Basil Duck vs. the Red Curry Duck, up'ed the spice on the Pad See-Eu to "mild" for just a little spice (it was still quite subtle), and added the fried rice. She was right, it was a perfect medley of flavors and the fried rice was probably the best I've ever had. The entree portions are also generous -- we almost finished every entree but not quite. Needless to say, we didn't have room for desert.

The restaurant's atmosphere, while nothing to "write home about," was fine. The kitchen is kind of cool -- it's behind a glass wall so if you elect to sit at the viewing counter, you can see everyone's food being made. The wait staff works nicely together, delivering food, drinks, and clearing plates as a team.

Very friendly staff, took great care of us. We ate here with our three young daughters who loved the food, full of flavor but we were able to avoid anything too spicy. If this was a local Thai we'd be here quite often.

We ate here twice during our visit to Charleston. The thai food here is quite authentic and there are many options. Definitely worth a visit

Came here two times for pre theatre diner. A popular restaurant with lots of very efficient staff meant that we were never clock watching. Good range of food which was very tasty. A plus for some is the ability to sit at a bar looking into the cooking area and watching the chefs at work
