Description: Chef Marc Collins draws inspiration from many cuisines around the world to create a menu that is truly unique to the Charleston restaurant scene. Drawing inspiration from historic Southern dishes and always highlighting what is local and in season, Chef Collins puts a healthful, distinctive spin on classic Lowcountry dishes. This means there is less butter and cream than typically seen on Southern menus. Whole grains are incorporated to dishes and ingredients are used at the peak of flavor. The result is satisfying dishes that retain their bright, bold flavors without the large amounts of fat found in many restaurant dishes. From our Plantation Rice Bread Rolls made in house daily, to the selection of local seafood, to Pastry Chef Lovorn’s incredible desserts, each dinner at Circa 1886 celebrates the region we call home. Let our professional, attentive, experienced and knowledgeable staff guide you through the menu and help select a wine that is a perfect pairing for food and budget.

We chose Circa 1886 for a Birthday dinner and were pleasantly suprised. The food was excellent, the wine suggestions paired well with dinner and the staff knowledgable regarding the menu and selections. Four stars for the meal and skill of the chef. The ambiance was romantic. We were in a quiet nook and able to converse without difficulty. The room was dimly lit. It was the prefect setting for a stormy romantic night in Charleston.

The food here is top notch. We stayed at the Wentworth Mansion of which this is part. Outstanding local versions of some great food.

I wish I lived in Charleston so I could eat here often.

The minute we arrived we knew this place was special. It was a rainy night but the moment we went in it felt warm and cozy. We were escorted to a romantic booth and the fabulous evening began. Sean greeted us and asked us where were from and he said he was from MA and still had family there. The food was sooo tasty and my husband even tried the Antelope. Great for a special night out and Sean made everything even better.

As a business traveler and foodie making 2-4 trips per month to major cities, I happily rate our dining experience at Circa 1886 as the best "Evah". We splurged on the Chef's Tasting Menu with wine pairings and every course was beautifully presented and conceived with a refreshingly straight-forward simplicity. The wines were superb and masterfully paired with each course. Our server, Jason, was warm, efficient, knowledgeable, and fun, and the pacing of the meal was perfect. Service was attentive without being disruptive. As it happened to be a birthday ending in a "0", a few extras were brought out and we felt very special. The restaurant is quiet and elegant without the pretentiousness that often surfaces in high-end venues. Can't wait to return. Husband is a less adventurous eater but also gave this evening 6 stars on a scale of 5.
