Description: Chef Marc Collins draws inspiration from many cuisines around the world to create a menu that is truly unique to the Charleston restaurant scene. Drawing inspiration from historic Southern dishes and always highlighting what is local and in season, Chef Collins puts a healthful, distinctive spin on classic Lowcountry dishes. This means there is less butter and cream than typically seen on Southern menus. Whole grains are incorporated to dishes and ingredients are used at the peak of flavor. The result is satisfying dishes that retain their bright, bold flavors without the large amounts of fat found in many restaurant dishes. From our Plantation Rice Bread Rolls made in house daily, to the selection of local seafood, to Pastry Chef Lovorn’s incredible desserts, each dinner at Circa 1886 celebrates the region we call home. Let our professional, attentive, experienced and knowledgeable staff guide you through the menu and help select a wine that is a perfect pairing for food and budget.

“Fabulous!!”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

We only had breakfast there as we were staying at the Wentworth Mansion. The breakfast was amazing and the service was wonderful. We both had a special potato mixture topped with 2 poached eggs. Yummy!!! The pastries are to die for!!! I can't wait to go there for dinner on our next trip back to Charleston!!!

“Fantastic dining experience in historic carriage house”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

I recently dined at Circa 1886 with clients who visited Charleston for the first time. Needless to say, they were very impressed from the moment we pulled up to the Wentworth Mansion - the restaurant is located in the former carriage house. Jason, our server, greeted the table with typical Southern hospitality and answered all of our questions in addition to providing some excellent recommendations based on each diner's particular taste. He informed us that the menu was new, which excited the table and lead us on a path to step outside our box a bit. Everything we ate was prepared to perfection and enjoyed by all. While we had to find room for dessert, we were glad we did...each item is prepared on site and crafted during your meal.

“Hidden Elegance”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

Tucked away on the grounds of the most elegant house in Charleston - the Wentworth Mansion, a luxury inn - Circa 1886 is a gem. Dimly lit, quaint, romantic and unpretentious. Service was above and beyond outstanding. Our server knew the menu inside and out, was attentive, and not at all intrusive. Tip: it's worth "getting lost" and having to go into the lobby of the Wentworth Mansion to ask for directions. The lobby was old-world spectacular, and we were directed to the restaurant by the very friendly concierge through the back door of the lobby that led to the inner gardens of the mansion. Afterwards, the concierge was kind enough to call a car service to take us back to our hotel.

“Absolutely AMAZING!”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Magical Eating, in the Carriage House of the Wentworth Mansion. Fantastic History. My wife, as usual, asked our waiter, '...what do you like?' and his answer was most excellent! ...'Its not what I like, ...its what the chef likes!' And on that occassion, 'the chef' liked the Chicken and Waffles Dinner, and it was truly Amazingly Excellent! Restaurant Week, and out of four different entre's, that was the very best!! The staff worked as a well-trained TEAM!!! I was really impressed when I watched four waiters pause behind the people at the next table and then all four, on cue, simultaneously presented the four entre's ....'AT THE SAME TIME'. VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!

“Great Meal in Lovely Surroundings”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

This restaurant is in the carriage house of the Wentworth Mansion, a lovely site. The food was incredibly interesting and delicious. Tastes I never would have thought of. The amuse bouche was a carrot soup - with flavor you probably have never had before. We split a very tasty heirloom tomato salad. I decided to try antelope for dinner and I was disappointed. Every sauce and side dish was a burst of wonderful flavored. The atmosphere was service and the service, for the most part was excellent. I would have given this restaurant 4 1/2 stars if I could have for 2 small flaws. Our waiter neglected to asks us if we wanted coffee, but another waiter ex asked quickly corrected that omission. And my companion felt her steak was closer to rare than medium rare, but was so good she didn't really mind. Not big enough problems to counter the wonderful flavors of our meal.
