“Interesting place, huge portions!”

Ate here 10 years ago when visiting Charleston and this was the first place we stopped on our return. Very busy, very good food but heavy on the fried stuff as is the custom here. Seems like everyone around us also ordered too much food, but they were very happy to wrap it up to take home. You won't go home hungry and will have experienced a unique slice of Charleston.

“If You Leave Here Hungry It's Your Own Fault”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

On our ladies weekend getaway we ate our way through Charleston. We were all impressed with our experience at Hyman's. We had forgotten a coupon for free crab spread, but no problem, they brought it pronto. Then we were offered a complimentary plate of grits/cheese/fried green tomatoes/cheese - yum! And I don't even like grits! My companions both had to have clams and declared them very good. They also raved about the grits and gravy. The shrimp po'boy was a monster. I ordered it with grilled shrimp, which were done to perfection. The lobster bisque was quite tasty. We had so much food on the table that the waitstaff had to pull out the extension! Oh, and last but not least -- the hushpuppies were heaven on earth! We were visited by two different management staff, thanking us for coming and checking to be sure we had no problems. We'll be back!

“Great seafood”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We chose this place to eat bye the number of people outside waiting to get in, thought, it must be good. We sat at a pub table in the bar and got served immediately, good tip. The fresh fish was excellent as we're the cheese grits. We enjoyed our meal, we would go back.

“Skip it!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

With all the good restaurants in Charleston, don't be the tourist that doesn't know... skip it! This is one of those places that is advertised in the "guide" books - apparently not for the quality of their food...

“Glad we went”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

OK I know this place is the Charleston equivalent of Hard Rock Cafe and is spurned by locals, but it really was good. We went at an off-peak time (around 2:30 PM) so we had no trouble getting a table. The hush puppies were the best I've ever had. They brought out a complimentary appetizer that had fried green tomatoes served over cheese grits... yum!! All of our meals were good if not exceptional and I'm glad we made the stop.
