Gaulart & Maliclet is not your typical Charleston restaurant. Long and narrow, with all seats sent around a counter, this is an urban bistro worthy of that designation. From the moment you walk in you will know this is a transplant that evokes all the charm of those hundreds of small cafes that line the sidewalks of Paris. Inventive, reasonably priced food and wine. A menu that changes with the seasons and vegetarian options that are good. This place has been in Charleston forever and evokes a time when most Americans had not been to Paris and I'll be this place seemed pretty unique and exotic. It's a great stop off for a meal any time of the day and we will definitely be back. Very well located just about in the center of Charleston on Broad Street near the art galleries.

This bustling little cafe has been on the scene since forever. Grab a seat at the long counter/community table and order the special of the day. It's a sandwich du jour, soup of your choice, fruit and a glass of their house wine...all for under $10! Great lunch spot when you're meandering around touring the historic South of Broad area or perhaps browsing in the many art galleries in the neighborhood.

Also known as Fast and French, this little bistro was fabulous! See reviews under Fast and French, but in a nutshell, this is good food at a good price in a great location, within walking distance to a million things you want to see while in Charleston.

It was pouring rain, I needed to get in SOMEWHERE, and this little cafe was right across the street from where I was standing.

What a blessing it was!

I ordered the special which was $9.25 and included a rather good glass of white wine.

The atmosphere is homey, open table style, and you may get to know others before you're done with your meal.

Try the tarragon mustard while you're there; it was very good.

I would come here again and again, and if I lived in Charleston, this is where I would be, every Sunday, reading my New York Times.

Just a casual dining place where everyone sits at a counter with others and talks. More locals than tourists because it doesn't look that inviting compared to most Charleston eateries but the food is very good and the companionship is fun.
