We chose Anson because we wanted a pleasant, good dinner. The food was very, very good. The atmosphere not quite what we expected. The restaurant was very noisy, and they first tried to seat us in "Siberia"- across from the bar and next to the kitchen exit which had no door so the patrons had to look at all the back kitchen activity. When we protested, they took us upstairs where we had to share our waiter's services with that of a very large group in several tables. Needless to say, the service we received was below par. Even though our server was very nice he just could not attend to us all.. The manager had to bring our food, and we had to pour our own wine. .We had a nice salad of locally grwon mixed greens and baby vegetables. It did not quite match the server's description but was quite good. Our grouper was excellent. All in all, cnsidering the prices, we would only return to this restaurant if we could be seated at a good table and be assured that they weren't short of waiters.

Was there the week after Christmas. Reservation taker was very cordial. Has a nice bar. Were seated promply at a very nice table for 6. Waitress was Hillary and she was very good. Food was excellent. We had Pork Osso Bucco, Scallops and a Fish Stew. Food pairings are unique and presentation good. Second time we have been there and was as good as the first time. Prices for downtown Charleston restaurant are reasonable. Don't miss but do have a reservation.

I am a native Charlestonian. We are blessed to have an over abundance of GREAT restaurants in our fair city. I love a good fine dining experience! ANSON has been my top choice for 10+ years. I dine at Peninsula Grill, Grill 225, Hig Cotton, FIG, Charleston Grill, Wentworth Grill, and others quite fequently too. Alll that being said, ANSON is the best! The atmosphere is just what you'd expect to see in the old south...a little like the French Quarter in New Orleans actually. The downstairs dining area is much nicer than the upstairs. (Be sure to request a booth.) The food has been stellar since it opened. My favorite is the cashew encrusted grouper in the champagne sauce. My husband prefers the crispy flounder. You can't go wrong with any dish! Be sure to save room for dessert. the banana cream pie is the best I've ever eaten anywhere! The service is always outstanding as well. No, ANSON is not an inexpensive eatery, but the portions are large and delicious.

One simple choice to make - whole crispy flounder. You'll enjoy it.

Delicious food - great service - nice evening~ and location -
We had one day to "do" Charleston - not enough time - but this restaurant was a highlight of our trip there. The grouper is excellent by the way...
