Eat the chocolate pudding! The eggplant sandwich is also a big fav of mine, though I haven't had anything I've disliked there.

“What a disappointment! Pricey and small portions too.”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

Yowee, I was expecting a funky place the locals go for good reasonable plentiful eats.
What we got was an overpriced cafe with very small portions, especially the fish dishes, cold dry hard biscuits and corn bread, and yukky cheese grits that we left on the plate.
Shrimp was tasty, sides were ok/good but small. Salads plain and unexciting.
There might be patrons that enjoyed their meal be we did not.
*** Reputation was better than the meal.
Service was slow and the place was almost empty.
When I spoke to the waitress and manager (which I usually never do), they both said: "oh, we use a strong cheese in the grits". It was spoiled, not just strong.
Try another place, not this out-of-the-way disappointment.
($120 for a lunch for 4 that left us hungry).

“Great breakfast place”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

If looking for what ails you after a long night or a short morning by all means do not miss this classic low country eatery. Though well known for lunch we only had time for breakfast during our short sojourn to Charleston. We were not disappointed.

Our small group was determined to sample as many offerings as we could so ordered a Big Nasty for the table. Fired chicken . . . on a biscuit . . . with gravy? Are you kidding me? We had them put a fried egg on top. You know, for the protein.

One guest ordered the specialty pumpkin pancakes that more than lived up to their name. The cheese grits passed muster from our other guest. Since she grew up in South Carolina, took her word for it. The coffee was hot, strong, and constant.

Although for me, the biggest surprise was the huevos rancheros. Growing up in Los Angeles was surprised that they could even compare. Very pleased.

Of note however arrive early on weekends (no later than 9:00) or be prepared to wait. The food will be worth it.

“First time having grits”

We were walking back from the Citadel and thought we would stop at Hominy. The food was very good. I had cheese grits that were delish.

“Disappointed”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

We went for brunch. I ordered shrimp and grits. I was disappointed. The grits were loose and watery. The portion were small. Overall I felt it was overprized and not worth the reputation.
