Sat at the Oyster Bar in the back of this really pretty restaurant, converted bank. Seems to have been inspired by Balthazar in NYC in decor -which is a compliment. Oysters are fresh as can be if not limited in offerings on this week after Labor Day. At $36 dozen, we could have thought we were in Manhattan. Good sauces to accompany but mignonette lacked even shallots for pop. Octopus Crudo was delish, tender as described. Lobster roll can only be equalled but could not be better than the one we had on this occasion. Not heavy on the mayo and brimming with claw meat, I'd say three or four ounces if I had to guess. Still, at $23, not a bargain for this size sandwich. Should be more like $18, really. Hawaiian rolls btw were just yummy, soft on the inside, crusty on the outside- and slightly sweet with the addition of pineapple. Tomato, Onion, Goat Cheese tart was good but not even close to being on the par with Fig's Heirloom Tart Tartin (Sister restaurant down the street). Blue Crab 'Louis' was equally fresh but lacked salt and any discernible noteworthy flavors. Had wines by the glass which are very tiny in size. They truly believe they think they are fooling the public with the ceremonious thin little carafe poured for the guest but the ounce size is way below industry average of five, five ounce pours per bottle. Over $200 a couple with tip, it is good place to eat but not anything like a value for what is offered. Fig is better in my book for the same dollar spent. Maybe they read these reviews and take note although business is brisk at this location. Many reviewers seem to say the same things as we experienced when it comes to bang for the buck. For a casual restaurant, it seems it should deliver more value in terms of wine service, at the very least. You can fool some of the people some of the time but...

The food is very overpriced and the cooking quite ordinary. The atmosphere on the second floor loft was great - much more quiet than the downstairs area. Our server did an admirable job and gave us some suggestions on where to find a great breakfast while in town. We would not return nor would we suggest this restaurant to our friends - there are so many other really fine restaurants in Charleston.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The food was fresh and tasty, the portions were better than expected for a high end restaurant. The atmosphere was great, not pretentious. The wait staff was perfect, attentive without being overbearing. We had 4 courses and drinks. The entrees were great and so were the deserts. The baked oyster appetizer was perfect. The seafood chowder and the Caribbean Stew were great. The only only thing that wasn't perfect is the poached egg was over done on my escarole smoked salmon salad, solid yolk. I would definitely recommend and will return if back in this part of the country.

While in Charleston over the Labor Day weekend, the family had an outstanding experience at The Ordinary. We originally had a a 9:30 PM reservation as we were traveling but, arrived around 9:00 P M and were promptly seated. Great facility and brilliant service all compliment extraordinary seafood. Make sure to get a Shellfish Tower to start. The Lobster Roll, Crispy Oysters with Beef Tartare and Maine Lobster Cocktail are outrageous. GO!

If you like seafood, it's a great place to go. The catch is fresh; the raw bar is impressive. It is in an old bank building, and it is tastefully restored. If you do not like seafood, I would try another place in Charleston..., 'cause you go there for the SEAFOOD! (Somewhat expensive too)
