“Out of this world!”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Never, ever have I had such fabulous Asian food as I did here. The Japanese pancake, Okonomiyaki, which is served at lunch and extremely popular, has no equivalent. Those who enjoy spicy food need to try their homemade hot sauce, which is made from pepper-infused honey. The flavors here pop in a way that I have never tasted before. The menu may be limited, but don't let that dissuade you from eating here. You will also enjoy the refreshing cocktail and juice menu. The property, a renovated gas station, is very eclectic, which lends to the charm of the experience. The knowledgeable wait staff takes great care of everyone. Take an authentic trip to Asia and stop by this funky fresh establishment.

“Some great things some not so much”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

Atmosphere was pretty nice. If you are going for dinner and you want a regular table instead of sitting at the bar make sure you get there early.

There is not a great deal to say about the service other than it was neither exceptional nor poor

The wife did not want to try the Okonomiyak since the description of a cabbage pancake does not make your mouth water. However this is clearly the best thing on the menu. We added fried egg and bacon to the dish. While the egg did not add much, the bacon was outstanding.

The Som Tam is just as described on the menu which is a “Kick a$$ spicy green papaya salad”

The Jiao Zi which consisted of 5 pork dumplings with a dipping sauce was also pretty good.

The Banh He was just OK. We both liked fritter crepe, but the raw bean sprouts added nothing and dipping sauce was nothing special.

The Trigger fish in the Cha Ca Hanoi was cooked nicely however the broth itself was a bit oily and left an unpleasant after taste.

The biggest complaint is the size of the menu which is very small. While we shared 5 dishes in total we were still hungry but did not see anything else on the menu we wanted to try.

Oh and make sure you bring your Visa card, because at XIAO, they don't take American Express.

Overall an OK meal, just not the Wow factor we were hoping for

“The Best Asian Food in Town”

Everything was absolutely delicious. If you have an adventurous palate, you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is trendy but comfortable - great spot for a date or a night out with friends.

“Hot, spicy, savory, delicious!”

Upon my second outing to this restaurant, I found the food equally delicious! The atmosphere industrial chic! The service efficient, informative and friendly. The dishes offered here are thoughtful, complex, authentic and delightful! I can not wait to visit

“Hot stuff!”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

I love it! Sit at the bar and chat with an informed and friendly staff member, watch as they mix some specialty Asian cocktails featuring srirachah, lemongrass; fish sauce in your martini, anyone?
A welcome relief from the fried offerings Charleston, ( understandably) touts or the she-crab sister to the shrimp and grits. All good, but basta!
I have found my favorite ap, and often buzz in early, theatre-bound to savor the Okonomiyaki , which never disappoints. Add the egg.......add the martini or ginger/lemongrass beer.
Next i promise to try each and every entree.. so stay tuned.
